A local resident was left in shock after discovering a massive black king cobra, over two metres long, hidding in their parked car. The incident, which took place near Tham Pha Pu Temple in Ban Nam Phu, Loei Province, quickly drew the attention of police and rescue volunteers. However, the snake’s capture ultimately required the expertise of a nearby monk, renowned for his skill with reptiles, who fearlessly seized the snake barehanded.

 

The unexpected encounter occurred on October 25 when the homeowner noticed the cobra slithering into the engine compartment of their car. Concerned for their safety, they contacted the Muang Loei Police Station, which then coordinated with the Loei Rescue Foundation, a team experienced in handling reptiles, to assist with the situation.

 

Upon arriving at the scene, rescue teams, police officers, and a monk from Wat Sri Aphaiwan examined the car and found the large black cobra coiled tightly around the engine. Assessing the situation, the monk, who has trained in handling snakes, courageously took charge. With a firm grasp, he secured the snake by its neck with his bare hands and safely placed it into a sack for relocation.

 

The cobra was transported away from the residential area and released into a forest far from the local community, much to the homeowner’s relief.

We just had a similar experience.

It had been 19 years since we last saw a king cobra at our place.

I put it down to being a very wet year and the snakes looking for higher ground.

Breeding season is between April and July... if you had the female likely the males are not interested.

The cobra didn't want to die so refrained from biting the monk

A 2 metre King Cobra is a juvenile. Wait until daddy comes along looking for junior....😀
