Back in Canada, there are public blood pressure checkers all over the place.  I can't find anything like that anywhere in Pattaya.  Anyone know of a way to get my blood pressure checked that does not involve buying a tester or paying to see a doctor?  I think there used to be kiosks around that did that at one time, but so far I have not been able to find anything like that.

Many larger pharmacies will do this for you.

Define a real pharmacy.  You mean like Fascino?  I thought Boots/Watsons were also real pharmacies? 

 

Do it for me as in they have one of those battery operated testers they will let me sit down and use, or do it for me as in they have public kiosks?

the Pattaya government hospital has them free as you walk into the general area. For people with appointments. It is an open space as you go to get queue. Not the Emergency room area

Not a public kiosk. But pharmacy staff have machine (in the case of real pharmacies staffed by actual pharmacists)

 

Yes, Fascino would be worth a try

 

Boots and Watsons here sell mainly cosmetics and toiletries. Tiny pharmacy counter with only very limited supply.

I found free-to-use blood pressure machines at Pattaya City and Pattaya Memorial Hospitals.

• Pattaya City Hospital: Two machines are located outside the side entrance.
• Pattaya Memorial Hospital: One machine is available at the Emergency entrance, and two more are near the nurses' station by the main entrance.

I checked on two machines at Pattaya Memorial and one at Pattaya City. The machines appeared to be of good quality, and all readings were consistent, suggesting accurate measurements.

I bought a BP tester like the ones they have in any doctor's cabinet. Far cheaper and always at hand. Like many other tests, the results car vary between the morning or the evening and between one day and another.

 

When it comes to testing certain factors in general, I recall during the COVID how one day the test came positive and the next day it was negative.

 

Same for some other issues like a Streptococcus P (Ag). One day it came out positive in a reputed lab and the doctor prescribed the usual penicillin based Amoxilin. As I read of the side effects of these very strong antibiotics that destroy the entire immune system, I took another test few days later and it came out negative. All this to say if it's something serious, better to get tested twice or thrice in different labs and then up to you on your decision to either take the stuff the doctor has prescribed or to let your immune system do the job.

 

All this is only a personnal opinion and experience and definately not to be taken granted and definately not to replace what any qualified doctor(s) may say.

Can confirm. Our local blood donation sessions previously used the 'whole arm' blood pressure machines. Every three months I was rejected. I purchased a basic Omron blood pressure monitor and found my BP was always normal. I went to the next blood donor session to find that they no longer use the whole arm machines and use small monitors similar to the one I'd bought. I now pass every time.

City Hosp has, soi.buket' entrance, 3 of them near A&E next to main door, orget bolt/grab to drive in, drop off right there.

The problem for me is white coat syndrome. My systole goes up by 40 mm Hg any time I am near a clinic, doctor or hospital.

 

I have proved this several times to doctors, by taking my home monitor along with me to consultations.

I bought a machine on Lazada for 300baht two years ago. Use it daily and had it checked for accuracy at local hospital.

I think... all hospitals have them... Just not in the emergency waiting rooms... go to the outpatient waiting area. i think it is a requirement to check this before any medical professional will see you... even for appointments..

And, in my hospital, give different readings on different machines. 

Get an OMRON from lazada for less than Bht 2000, and D I Y.

Why take the machine with you. Get a free app and put the data in your phone every time you take it, in my case every morning. The app can work out averages, highs & lows etc.

I had mine checked at the dentist before getting a filling the other day. Been going to the same dentist for over 20 years, never had a BP test before.

I bought one in Lazada for about 500 baht.. Seems to work good and readings are consistent with readings i took at the hospital. I knew I had elevated pressure from when i went to see dentists.. they will refuse to see you if your pressure is high. Mine is not so bad. Just bad enough to stop me from getting the dental work i want done

But the home machine makes it easier than going to the hospital to check...

It amazes me!  If a person is worried about their BP, why they won't buy their own machine so they can self test - depending on the machine readings results, you can determine IF you need a medical professional to check / confirm your results. I self tested for 20+ years because of high pressure and meds were adjusted when my testing was confirmed by a doctor.

Why screw with your health when a BP CUFF is so inexpensive  ( under 500bt ) and "can" give you peace of mind as well as a warning if a problem MIGHT exist.

Traveling to and fro a FREE testing site ( several times ??? ) wastes TIME - is your life worth 500bt? 

NOTE:

There are several wrist watches that can also give you a idea of BP, PULSE and more around / under 1000bt.

Every Monday morning under the flyover at the bottom of Thrappaya Road. In the shade there is a team of ladies who do Weight, Height, Blood Pressure & Waist Measurement. It's free.  Take your passport. The flyover is the one that goes over to Bali Hai Pier & has Basket/football/skateboard courts under it on the Bali Hai side.  The ladies are under there on the otherside of Thrappaya Road opposite the car wash.
