Interesting….I have been in Bangkok for 7+ years and am currently in Danang.

I certainly couldn’t stay here.   There is something about it that I can’t put my finger on….but it’s an uncomfortable feeling.  It’s not a user friendly country/city…it’s far more foreign than Thailand and there is an underlying sketchy vibe.

I wouldn’t want to retire here personally (visa issues aside)

Very interesting indeed

Maybe your comparing it to Thailand

not even sure that makes any sense.

Let me tell you, I totally fulfilled my lifelong retirement dream, and it only took 40 years of hard work wrangling pigs on a farm in the Midwest USA and saving every cent to get here. That’s right, brothers, I dedicated my best years to hauling hogs, and now? Now I’m wrestling with local swans and the proud owner of not one, but TWO adjoined apartments on a high floor in the esteemed Omni Tower, with a smog city view that would make anyone choke, and right smack in the middle of Bangkok’s Soi Nana. Yeah, that Soi Nana—the one that’s a true melting pot of “entrepreneurs.” Picture this: a whole community of East African “professionals” who live here too, renting apartments and getting into nightly fights that bring in the police for regular break-ups. Not to mention all the Arabs and Indians slumming around, owning apartments here too. The cops are practically on standby, whether it’s to handle a squabble or round up folks for “visa irregularities.” Between 8 PM and 2 AM, the lobby transforms into a visual feast, with no fewer than 50 ladyboys strutting through, plus a rotating crew of “working ladies” from the Stans—Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, you name it. Living here feels like being inside the belly of the anaconda. This is paradise, folks, and I wouldn’t change a thing. If you’re jealous of my setup, well, I get it. You probably thought paradise was palm trees, beach chairs, and cocktails, naah bro, this is the real dream!

Oh congratulations and yes we are all jealous

You Sir are a winner and beat us all

Thankyou for your service to the pig community

As a matter of interest is it safe in that area at night?

I retired here because I liked all the beautiful women.

And I retired here because I loved one beautiful woman 15 years ago, and still enjoy my house and home in Phitsanulok. Easy peaceful life, reasonably cheap, good internet, and a nice Immigration boss.

no plans to retire yet but when I do I will be staying in Thailand.

How long you gonna wait? So many people expire with future plans that they never achieve because time runs out first. Do it now.

Sounds horrendous, come up and visit me for some peace and quiet.

And some Rock & Roll with plenty of Vino and Weed.

After 50 years on the road as a pro musician, I am happy to have stopped travelling. I can however, continue my musical 'hobby' writing and recording music on my PC for my own enjoyment.

Just like David Gilmour, huh? He just released another solo album last week or maybe a couple days ago. You can listen to it on Spotify. He said it's better than dark side of the moon. Ha!

Is it the constant unescapable noise for the motorbikes constantly sounding their horn ?

They ride their motorbikes using their horn like a siren .

Constant beeping is extremely stressful

Just about to move from our village to the farm; 2km away. No leccy, no running water. No internet to speak of at the moment, but I've got plans. Have a solar system pumping us fresh, clean water.

Wonderful nature all around. Can sit for hours watching the birds squabble in the trees,. Or can sit by the pond flicking pellets of fish food onto the water surface, to see what fish is most alert.

Yesterday I rescued a really long worm, that was about to come a cropper with one of the farm dogs. Any uneaten rice goes into the pond to encourage snail growth.

Wear the same clothes all the time. Wash the shirt and shorts in the pond and dry them on the tree branches. So every day there is fresh kit.

Always on the look-out for interesting cloud formations. The other week there was a cloud taking the shape of one of the farm dogs. I was lucky to capture the image on the camera.

We have a well that has ropes hanging down for emergency use. As in WW111. We are quite close to the US dark site, so we have to be prepared.

Great life here. Is there a better place to be in the whole world?

Beautiful

A few days ago I retired to Buddha Hill. Life was good and no stress.

Yesterday I heard somebody knock my door. Turned out to be my very first Thai gal 6 years ago came to visit!

I had to go back to work.... but it wasn't unpleasant. Was very rewarding to see she left happy.

Your right

I had this happen in the Philippines when I was in Cebu

I analysed that they bip/beep their horns for no reason

So one morning I set the alarm clock for 3am in the hotel and walked to the intersection where the inyala mall is and waited , hardly any cars and then.....I spotted a guy in a sports car driving towards the red light ,no other cars in sight !

Hand on  his horn beeping ,beep beep beep before he stopped at the red light

He looked over at me on  the pedestrian footpath ,

I immediately pulled my shorts down turned around and gave him a brown eye

I could hear him blast his horn as he drove off into the distance with me still bent over

50 years on the road, a lot in Scandinavia, gave me lots of that. Happily married for 17 years, then after being widowed, came here and like what I now have. No need for flangeing, but from what I have seen, there's plenty around.
