UK Pensioners in Thailand Face New Scrutiny Over Pension Fraud

Featured Replies

As non residents can't open new UK bank accounts, you won't be getting a pension either.

Can you imagine the banks trying to process 13M new accounts for pensioners, many of whom can't even remember their own names?

What complete and utter nonsense you're writing, get some help!

They know I live here and am not on the fiddle, they pay me directly, but, if I get a form to fill in, no problem.......Next......😉

  • On an aside Britain currently provide £13.3 Billion annually in overseas aid to countries that even have space programmes   Yet lets crucify pensioners living abroad where the "fraud" is est

  • Maybe the UK government should stop treating it citizens like criminals, or second-class citizens, and start paying them their pensions unmolested.

The biggest fraud is implementing a system where the UK Government can treat its pensioners unfairly based on where they live even though they have all contributed the same.

It's nothing new, they have always been able to look at any ones bank account if they have suspicion of money laundering/ benefit fraud etc.

No they haven't.......................not without a court order.

I am happy for the crackdowns as taxpayer money was used for playing bridge.

It seems you are struggling............🤔

In Canada customs and border agency is linked to revenue agency. They know exactly when you left and how long have you been out.

Nothing like this exists in UK? No wonder UK is a country of choice for Mahmood and Patel.

They are screwing Pattaya prostitutes with government money.

The revenue department in the UK operates under the title HMRC, which is His Majesty's Revenue and Customs. The pensions and benefits department is separate and is known as the DWP, Department of Work and Pensions. They do share data. I notified the DWP of a change of address (known as a notifiable change in circumstances) and thereafter received communications from HMRC at that address. I think you have to assume they could know everything about you if they so desired, and act accordingly.

Watching YouTube vids last night, one came up on what is going to happen from January 2025 regarding the fraud and the pension 'benefit'. So I watched it and was taken aback by what is REALLY going to happen that will affect ALL pensioners wherever you reside, including the UK.

Take too long to go through it on here, you must watch and listen to every word till the end of the vid.

Later another vid came up on the same subject, I watched it, more or less the same contact, then another, same, all confirming what is going to happen, and one thing is clear, those claiming the full pension and living in LOS will have something to worry about.

Pensioners in the UK will get letters with forms to fill in, phone numbers, addresses, bank account etc details. Bank statements, to look at where payments are going over periods, payments for normal living in the UK.

The bloke on here who keeps making stories up will soon be riding off into the sun-set, as what the Gov is now going to do, will bury him...

I have said for years on here, one day the dots will line up, for sure this is the first major step.....😱

Well, that is 15 minutes of my life that I won't get back.

So you haven't watched the very informative videos to point out what is going to happen for folk to receive their UK state pension............🙄

Let me try and explain it as simply as I can...

As I understand it........

ALL UK state pensions will only be paid into a DWP website account to recipients, no other way.

So, you will have to set up an account with them, if you don't, no payment.

The videos explain what is going to happen to stop those on the fiddle (living in a country with no reciprocal agreement) is included, hence the Designated DWP account, which they can monitor.

Let's be honest, it is a common sense move to catch pension benefit fraudsters..

Just wasted 30 minutes, nothing in there of opening a new bank account, and the video is done for profit by a private company..you are full of BS...and I paid £150 a year stamp for the last 20 years whilst abroad and now have full state pension entitlement in a few years, and cost me less that £3k and I have a bank account and address in PI so will get yearly increases...so stick that in ya pipe and smoke it😁😁😁

Pretty much ado about nothing, a mountain and mole hill. Lots of jealous scaremongering going on but funny to read the replies from ex SAS and police inspetors

Only if they have enough prior evidence to warrant a court order to see your accounts, the new law, if passed, would bypass this

Yes they have, a court order is only required when further action is needed👍

Not bothered about people claiming unemployment benefit and working, builders who demand to be paid in cash, benefit claimants who aren't even in the country, child benefit payments for children not even in the country, Then the biggest scum bag cheats of the lot, the tech companies with their off shore tax havens. No you go after pensioner living overseas and getting the annual increment. Must be all of 0.01% and all the scum bag cheats screwing over the UK. The biggest of sharing the same name as a South American river or Thai retail coffee chain. Websightes, for God's sake learn some English.

What comments.of mine have been stupid, or is it because you realise yours are

This may lead to banks who allow expats to run an account in the U.K. to stop as it's not worth the extra admin. and they will close accounts arbitrarily.

To me that's the most worrying part.

The bank has also been requesting, for years now, (in case they have a need for them) that I provide them with details of my  country of residence (I have only a Thai address, both the bank and HMRC/DWP are fully aware of that fact) and my Tax Identification Number, I have ignored that part of the request as the bank gives no interest on the account therefore there is no tax implications for them to be concerned with.
