The world is awash with oil so I guess drill baby drill was just a populist slogan.

America imports oil. I guess if they stop importing oil your point becomes moot.

So what would you do?

Utopia = a world that is managed by responsible people with the goal of preserving the natural balance of the biosphere that we all need to survive ... Human overpopulation reduced by birth control .

Everything is connected in a balanced , functional world , but once this natural balance is destroyed , it is difficult to repair it .

Evolution is the thing ... but if you want our species to evolve further ( urgently needed ) , the basics that are needed for this have to be respected : an environment that enables further evolution ... not an environment that is dominated by catastrophic events resulting of misunderstanding of how everything is connected ...

Humans living in peace together , speaking the same language , all working together to make this world a better place , instead of destroying it . = Utopia .

So how do you make that happen? Otherwise I know of some homosexual hippy communes where you don't have to shower and still get sex.

World economic forum may , theoretically , show a better way , but it is not theory that is needed now ...

The principle of sustainable economics has to be implied , away from destructive greed ... not more and more , but enough .

The all praised eternal economic growth is like the growth of a cancer .

I realized all this early ...

I did never want to put kids in this mad world ...

I live far away on an sparsely populated  island in the Andaman sea ... I get my electricity from solar , I go swim with otters in a private lake , my dogs keep me company ... I am a happy man , if there were not the Lemmings ...

This is what's going to happen.  Any success Trump or his team make will be attributed to something the democrats talked about by Democrats.  Republicans are going to promote his teams success and talk about the hurdles and road blocks the Democrats use to get in the way.

Same Same, no different.

The one thing I like about Trump is he does want to make changes.  His approach unfortunately causes conflict with some people.

I believe this 2nd term they see him differently and know he is seriously Pro United States.  I hope things will be a little different this time and his approach will be a little more diplomatic but focused on results

I think the powers that be recognize serious problems such as hordes of people may need to be displaced due to climate catastrophes. I think they're trying to come up with solutions to mitigate these problems.

But the average person is oblivious ... and there are lots of us.

Complex issue.

Bullet point summary of PBS interview with Financial Times business columnist Rana Foroohar.

1. Trump is proposing to bolster an already strong economy through debt and deficit spending which is a very risky dynamic. She points out that at the time of the election the US had the strongest recovery of all G-20 countries, and with recessions occurring on average about every 10 years, the US is overdue for an economic recession. The reason this is a risky dynamic is because goosing an already strong economy through debt and deficit spending will make it more difficult to respond to any downturn or crisis of any other type which crops up.

2. Tariffs have a potentially inflationary impact and could weaken the dollar.

3. The impact of cutting corporate tax rates (as proposed by Trump) would mainly benefit high income/high wealth households as 85% of stock wealth in the US is owned by approx 10-12% of the population.

4. The only reason why the US's profligate spending is able to be sustained as it has been for many decades is because the US dollar is a global reserve currency. However, there are many challenges to the dollar as a reserve currency, and as the US debt and deficit continues to grow, more and more investors are tiptoeing away from US debt.

5. Were there to be a major recession or drop in the stock market, this could generate a situation where the US government was unable to pay its debt without slashing entitlement and defense spending. The only other way it could solve this problem would be to print more money, which would further devalue the currency to the point where potentially no one wanted to hold dollars, which would trigger a currency crisis,  i.e., turning the US into a "distressed asset" because of its excessive debt.

6. Trump's proposals to reduce regulation would likely trigger a mergers and acquisitions boom. Good for the stock market (which benefits the super wealthy), but M&A activity often results in layoffs and reduced marketplace competition. She also reminds viewers that Artificial Intelligence is projected to eat further and further up the employment food chain, as Larry Summer's described it, AI is coming for the cognitive class, potentially further hollowing out the middle class.

Editorial comment from me: It should be pointed out that a great deal of regulation Trump is determined to eliminate is designed to protect the environment, workplace safety and to protect the proverbial "little guy." Just today, it was announced that Trump was in favor of relaxing regulations on self-driving vehicles. Who do you suppose this helps, and who will pay the price for these relaxed regulations?

7. No taxes on tips is a very cynical ploy as most people earning tips are so low on the income scale that they are already paying minimal income taxes.

8. Trump paints immigration as having only negative economic and social costs, but it should be pointed out that immigration contributed to downward pressure on wages without which inflationary pressures would have been higher.

America imports oil? The United States of America is a net exporter of oilIs the US a bigger oil importer or exporter?

The United States is also a top exporter of LNG (liquified natural gas)Natural gas imports and exports - U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA)

At present the USA is already a formidable competitor of Russia in its key natural gas market (Europe) and the 'drill, baby drill' policy has the potential to send the Russian and the Middle Eastern economies tailspinning into chaos, by hurting their main, in some instances sole, source of income.

If he enacts his import tariffs as promised it could spell disaster for the American economy. It is nothing but a massive tax hike on the American People, and could have a very negative impact on thousands of American companies that manufacturer overseas, without any true understanding of why they manufacture overseas.

As far as I'm concerned one of the most dangerous, reckless, and poorly thought out policies that Trump has proposed, are even higher tariffs on many classes of imported products.

Who ends up paying for this? American companies who are manufacturing in China, and the consumer, that's who.

In the end huge taxes may encourage companies too pull out of China, which is a good thing, but how long will that process take, and what will the economic consequences be in the interim?

Trump manufactures overseas, every opportunity he gets, to save money. Bibles, baseball caps, and likely countless other things. So, calling him very disingenuous would be an understatement.

Yes, America imports oil - just as the other poster to whom you responded originally stated.

Yes, America is a net exporter of oil - they export more than they import.

  Nonetheless, America imports oil.
