In a time of high inflation, high rents, and high wages, they have increased the price by $20.99USD per year.  This works out to be an increase of $1.75USD per month.

$1.75USD is 60 baht a month, which is less then one small beer in a bar, all over Thailand, per month.

I have always said, you get what you pay for with VPN's, and not all VPN's are made equally.

If you are familiar with the PIA user interface, and billing system, and the company has served you well in the past, you might reconsider and just pay the extra money.

Yes, there are cheaper VPN's on the market, but when you do some research, you will find they are cheap for a reason.

If you are happy with PIA, then simply open a new account using a different email address. Standard price US$39.99. Two years 4 months for US$57. Just let your current account expire without rene

That means he would be without the use of a VPN UNTIL and IF the company ever makes a new offer, and should he decide to use a new email address to make a new account, how will he pay?

They are not that stupid that they do not cross reference payment details.  I suppose he could use his spouse's card, or a friend or family's card, maybe even anonymous crypto, but what a tangled web one would weave in order to save a lousy 60 baht a month.

It pays to look at the bigger picture.

They are useful for the "hub of porn" and for other geo-blocked sites.  There is no such thing as true privacy but then again the average VPN user isn't an international criminal or terrorist so they don't have much to worry about.  Most if not all VPN services are likely either backed by the CIA or some other intelligence service or otherwise knowingly or unknowingly have their infrastructure totally compromised by intelligence services or cave in to pressure from them.  So in other words if any Aseannow members are pedos and think a VPN is protecting them they are living on borrowed time.

Opera browser has a free VPN service.

The main downside is that it only provides a VPN for the browser itself and not any other applications that may access the internet.

And you can't specify the country of the exit node in the free version.

Yes, you should.

Do you think there is any rule against having multiple accounts with the same company? 😊 Maybe you can show us evidence of that.

If the original poster wants to save that US$10 or US$20, what's it to you? If you cannot help, then why are you on this thread? To mock them?

Yes, it's called a fair use policy.  It's in the T's & C's.  Check it out and educate yourself.

Already explained.  Do try to keep up.

With VPN's, you get what you pay for, and if it's free, then YOU are the product, not to mention the integrity of your data / surfing could be compromised. Is that risk really worth an extra 60 baht a month?

I have offered my advice.

For 60 baht extra a month, and the OP is happy with PIA, is it worth researching other VPN's, or simply buying the cheapest, when it may not meet the OP's requirements?

I suggest, for a lousy 60 baht extra a month, stick with the devil you know.

What's your problem with paying a little extra for a good product?  Inflation is still high, all around the world.  Prices can not stay the same forever.

You are lying. You haven't checked any T&Cs. It seems this is your MO. To lie and provoke.

Nothing to lie about, and not provoking.  Many software companies have a fair use policy.  Do you deny this?

Have you checked any T's & C's?

Your MO seems to be to provoke anyone who disagrees with you.

Ive been using PIA ( Private Internet Access ) for a few years now and not had any problems . Its nearly time to renew my PIA yearly 12 month package and Ive just seen this ..

We would like to inform you that as of Oct 15, 2024, the price of our yearly plan will increase to USD $49.99. This was not an easy decision. We have always tried to keep our prices as low as possible for customers whilst operating a globally leading VPN service. However, in order to continue to provide the most reliable and competitive service possible, we must now increase our prices.

In the past the same yearly 12 month package cost was ..... USD $29.00 .

I know that if I subscribe to a different plan with PIA  ( 2 years or 5 Years ) I could possibly get the cost down , but I would rather just keep a yearly plan .

I use a VPN mainly for torrenting and privacy .

I was hoping to locate another VPN provider for a better yearly package cost .

Any recommendation , suggestion or advice please.

On PIA's website it shows the price as being $39.95 for one year or $79 for 40 months.   I know you said that you don't want to commit to longer than a year but I think that I'd just fork over the $79  and not worry about it again until 2028.

Mullvard 5 accounts for about $65 per year.

What is this PRON you mention. I'd like to try it! 555

I use my NORD VPN to be able to watch UK TV channels, and to protect my Banking activity.

The VPN will allow you to make it appear to your bank that your are not abroad and it will prevent your ISP from knowing what you are doing online but it's superfluous in terms of security against hackers when using financial websites.  By now every bank is using SSL encryption so even without a VPN nobody short of the NSA is going to be able to do intercept your communications with the bank.  For that matter, GMail, Facebook, and even Aeannow are SSL encrypted too.  The most common ways that people get "hacked" is by  someone looking over their shoulder while they are working in public or by clicking on things that they shouldn't have clicked on, and a VPN isn't going to fix that.

Anyone knows\uses a VPN that supports WiFi calling?

A couple of years ago I changed to cyber ghost (can't remember which one I used before) but unfortunately they don't support it. I read somewhere that experts VPN does and I was willing to pay an extra $4 per month, but a chat with their rep made it clear they don't. I also checked with Nord and they also don't support it. It is strange as I can make WhatsApp calls while connected to the VPN, yet can't make calls using an overseas sim as the companies overseas block it...

That is true, but the whole world is full of greed and capitalism. There is very little about good service and the satisfaction of the customer.

Is it really necessary to have a VPN at all if you are not into porn, not a Pedo, and do not want anyone to know you are emailing from Thailand? I use the Opera VPN only for pirating.

Agreed, or just deactivate auto-renewal before the renewal date.  When I did this with Bitdefender two weeks ago I was immediately offered a 50% subscription discount to resume auto-renewal.

What turns out, because of the price and small risk $1/month, I took out a 1-year subscription with ‘Namecheap’ yesterday, fine, everything worked yesterday.
What turns out today, they have blocked the subscription with the reason that they need more information and will block the connection until then. What the <deleted>!
They won't get them, have asked for a refund, which I don't expect back.
Then just suffer a $12 loss.

But a good lesson for others.

In fairness, I must add the following past: It did have a follow-up after all, ‘Namecheap’ was only concerned with payment verification, which consisted of a letter code that would appear on my payment statement when I made the payment to them.
After giving that, I had full access to the VPN, so yes...things can change.

The experience I had with Opera recently was that they offered VPN for payment, there would also be a free version but with that I was told, if I wanted to have a connection in Europe, it was not available.
But it must be cheating, because on my old computer with an older version of Opera, it worked.

I did use Express VPN for a long time but now their prices are a ripoff.

I cancelled my vpn express, and they came back with a 2 year and 3 months deal for 99usd. My renewal was almost the same for one year.

Check this website, and see. However Express vpn have been the best for my use hands down. Be it Discovery, Max, Netflix, banks, official offices

The speed can vary a lot depending which country you connect to. My default connection destination is Singapore for general day to day stuff because that gives me the fastest speeds and is very stable/reliable. The PC I ran the test on is connected to the router by ethernet cable.

Proton Mail offers free VPN if you sign up for their free email service.

Yes: free + free.

I have Proton Mail for my "burner email addresses", and I installed their free VPN, but don't use it regularly.

The free version is a bit slow.

(Can use, just too slow for this impatient old man.)

' I second that emotion' 😉 not only is the base Proton free, but the proton email address is VITAL to me. CIBC Canada (and other security conscious companies) require you to have an encrypted email account - in order to receive the security code for international bank transfers.

a must- have..

plus, they are a NFP (Swiss) entity - which i like to support (similar to the Guardian which is paywall free)
