I envy you getting ten hours sleep.

Me too, 5-6 hours of good sleep is enough for me, find it hard to sleep more than that.

Been in Thailand for 2 weeks and I still wake up with the sun and go to bed at 8 pm every night.

I do enjoy the cool mornings walks along the beach. Best part of the day in from 6-8 am. Surprised so few westerners are out.

I have a 8 year old kid with me so parenting takes priority. Helping with homework during the days etc. and getting kid in bed early.

I used to do 8 pm to bed and up at 4.30 am and do a run/walk or a bike ride for about 2 hours.

But with the rainy season, stopped it and have not started for a couple of months now! Laziness have set in!!!

Agree - Best part of the day is from 5-8 am.

When doesn't matter, as I'm usually awake in <6 hrs after I fall asleep.   Usually some time around midnight, to before sunrise.  0500 this morning, myself & dog up for a P, then coffee.

Check BP before coffee, make sure I'm still alive and not in the other universe :coffee1:

To me 4am up is perfect! 4 to 6 best wind to walk 6-9km on Jomtien beach and Phra Tamnak hill.

Now back to BangNa and no nice place to walk. Just ugly streets, no shade.

But she's worth it every sec 😉

Bed 9 wake up 5. Don't really have much choice when you have to take a child to school

At what time does school start?

How long does it take to wake, shower, clothe & feed the child, and then drive or bus to school?

I have done a volte face on this.

When I lived in Pattaya many moons ago I went to bed at 6 am wasted and woke up as the sun set.

40 years on and now I am the same as the OP.  Up with the sun while wife feeds monks then short walk with dogs ( cool season only )

Please do not judge us on Thai or your own standards. Walk to school every day is 30 minutes - its the reason most thais are farang are overweight - the inability to walk anywhere ! School starts 7. Wife is out exercise at 5 am walking round the estate - explains the explosion in bar girl KG too - too lazy

edit: I don’t actually fall asleep into around 930 to 10. Still get a solid 8 hours sleep/night.

AI story?  2 weeks here and almost no posts...

Thanks for your very correct answer. Cheers.

Sir your bedtime schedule is shameful.......A real tourist party animal goes to bed at 4-5 AM and wakes up at 2-3 in the afternoon....

Obviously the O/P has more sense than to be a real 'party animal'. (and it seems so have many others)

Don't judge others by your own (low) standards.

For whatever reason, I have been in the habit of waking up at 4AM.  Recently, though, I'm experimenting a little.  I go to bed when I'm tired and wake up whenever I wake up.  Usually, I'm still up at 4AM, although sometimes I don't wake up until 6AM.

Anyway, sleep is more important than many people realize.  Getting eight hours of sleep one way or another is crucial.  If for whatever reason I don't get the full eight hours at night, I end up taking a nap during the day.  Yesterday, I guess I was sleepy. While I was laying around the pool, I fell asleep for about an hour.  I wasn't trying to, it just happened. Last night I slept better, at least according to my sleep tracker, which showed 100% recovery.

So what is the OP trying to say? That it is some miracle to wake up by 6AM as a result of sleeping before 10PM? Confused... but guess it is something to really discuss; the fact that you can decide when you sleep, how long and what the outcome is of the time you then wake up assuming a healthy 7-8 hour sleep...

Been married to Thai wife for close to 20 years. No need to party hard every night.

I go out occasionally in the evenings and people watch.

Don't envy something like that.

That's about  42 % of your life asleep. !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Where's the health benefit in that.

No thank you.

I usually don’t sleep so much. I think I am just relaxed. Body recovering from years of stress.

So 2 weeks in Thailand and you've posted threads to say your BO is gone and you now sleep much more than before. Sounds like you've found your dream spot 😆

Unfortunately I am a bad sleeper. Rarely get anything like eight hours, even after a hard workout at the gym. still wake up feeling knackered. Lack of enough sleep is worse for one's health than too much.

I have tried everything, from not eating after 7pm, and going to bed at 10:30,  to ear plugs.  I guess it's just the way I am.

But the quietness of the early mornng is a bonus.

I have always been healthy but upped it a notch here.

I did cut sugar out of my diet around 2 months ago and may be reaping the rewards now.
