Living in Thailand is very cheap?

Featured Replies

That's just one example of food......our total fixed outgoings, living in a three bed house are around B10,000/month......no way any western country could come close to that.

In Thailand, I would need to spend my full pension and maybe more on hospital bills. So, yes, I can still afford to dine out in Spain.

How much is your rent, your water, your electric, your cell phone?   And after you've spent most of your pension paying for those, can you still afford to dine out?

  • You guys are delusional. You are so busy licking Thai boots that you have completely lost the plot.    He is not paying double for condo because he doesn't live in chicken farm condo. Just b

But to me the people of Spain were much nicer than the people of Madrid.

When did they separated?

Yes, I live in Alicante.

You live in Torrevieja. 50km south of Alicante.

If you live in Pattaya do you say "I live in Chon Buri?"

Just try to help in new place.... it can be confusing.

When I choose to move to Europe (Spain), I moved not only because of the food.

In my case, Kidney failure and other ailments, it was overall cheaper to live in Europe than to stay in Thailand.

Also, the life in Thailand became a burden for me (I live alone, not a spoiled to death Birdy of 20 years).

Here I can benefit from the support for 65+ with a home nurse and later home food delivered at my door.

Hope that your dream in Thailand will last long time, but at the current situation and many foreigners leaving the sinking ship I doubt it.

Wasn't you in Wandsworth,  UK a few months ago ?

Some people don't have to live from hand to mouth.

Don't know about the op's restaurant but in the UK if you eat at the cheap places you'll be surrounded by pensioners on state benefits and the cheap crowd.

Nothing wrong with that. I'm cheap myself, but the great thing about Thailand is that for much less than 400bht you can eat in a place where a young attractive Thai might eat.

"Were you not".......yes, last August.....house sit for a millionaire couple, their seven bedroomed house and a goldfish.....hard work but someone has to do it.

I return to the UK most years for a visit. I have four kids and three grandchildren.

I haven't lived there for nearly thirty years

Yes, or near free IF he has earned EU Soc Sec card. Like I have to 27 states.

So you lived in  that house in the UK and you also didn't live in that house in the UK, both at the same time ?

Wing Zaps are tasty, when fresh out & hot.   Zinger (chicken sandwich) is good when hot & done right, or not so, when it isn't.

That's all I've ever order.  Oh yea, egg tarts are decent.  Inflation has hit them, so really on pop in when O&A.   All local vendors do all, better or as good, and cheaper.

Nice change when O&A if PTT Park food court, ma/pa vendors, or 7-11 doesn't have anything interesting.  KFC being last choice.

Yeah nice.

Mostly I eat home cooked but do like to go out to Taco House/Burger Station/V8 Fastlane occasionally.

It's called the "S1" card.

You can Google it.

My advice to people contemplating a permanent move to Thailand is not to expect it to be a cheap place to live. It once was. but not any more.

Not so sure about that, the city, Torrevieja, wasn't listed on Numbeo

On a quality-adjusted basis, Spain offers better value for MANY things based on my 1 month trip this year to: Zaragoza, Valencia, Alicante, A Coruna, Santander, Pamplona and Vittoria-Gasteiz and Oviedo. Plus the weather is better and most cities have good public libraries.

Plus a can of beer starts at12 baht and a litre of wine starts at 36 baht (Mercandona, Lidl, Aldi).

Alcohol prices are far lower in Spain. See https://tienda.mercadona.es/categories/169

Dairy prices are far lower too.

Besides prices, the Spains air quality is excellent.

I love shopping at Mercadona.

Just fill your trolley with what you need and ask to deliver it at your home.

Not so sure about that, the city, Torrevieja, wasn't listed on Numbeo, so took 2 similar seaside provinces, Torrevieja, located in  Alicante province, and Chonburi.   Both seaside, both about same population, and area.

Chonburi considerably cheaper, where noted.

Yeah, I have learned afer living in many countries around the world, folks outside the big cities of that country are much nicer than those in the big cities, no matter the country in my experience.

Until recently, I worked at 4-star and 5-star hotels for 30 years, including in Thailand. You could get better than what you have shown for less than that price. I'm excluding the crazily expensive hotels, such as the Mandarin Oriental Bangkok, of course. (By the way, the Christmas Eve buffet there costs 11,000 Baht!)

You can Google it.

You didn't Google... 😉

S1 is application Form.

"The S1 form allows you (and/or your family members) to register for healthcare if you live in an EU country (1) but you are insured in a different one."

Card;

"The European Health Insurance Card (EHIC)"

You seem to be struggling with the difference between visiting and living.....

If I went to Spain for a fortnight.....people would say I was visiting Spain.

If I worked in Germany for 25 years people would say I was living in Germany.....

Not a difficult concept.

"......been abroad for 30 years now....."

And in your mind that translates into ...."haven't been back to the UK for 30 years"

You must struggle to survive in this world.
