Don’t let these types wind you up. I would quote the oft used phrase—don’t feed the troll—but it would likely be deleted. Folks that repeatedly shove their point across in the same thread don’t usually have the best intentions. This beaut right here should be in most ‘ignore’ lists.

Yes, you are very correct.

I can't remember seen any Thai pilot in international aviation Business.

And that is why? Guess😂

Are you involved in the international aviation Business?

Where did you source your information, please?

Info from Carsten Spohr. He's a friend of mine.

Thank you. So your info is authentic. No Thai pilots in the international arena.

I believe you. Thank you for the info and please do keep us updated

I would say (as a forced retired airline captain due to the age restriction), that there are many VERY EXPERIENCED pilots out here “sitting on our thumbs”… fully capable with a lifetime of experience that would love to get back into the cockpit.

Changing the pilot age rule to accommodate the possibility of pairing old experienced guys with a under 65 (for safety) could go a long ways to ease the pilot shortfall.

Sidelining a lifetime of experience due to age is a tragedy.

Pilot retirement should be predicated on mental capabilities and physical testing, not some arbitrary age…

Cheers

+1 to all that. There's no substitute for experience. And yet now there's even discussion (to be clear, not in Thailand) about allowing Single Pilot Operations for commercial carriers to save money. Sure, may all go uneventfully, but what happens when there's a major systems failure on an approach or departure at night in hard IMC? Single pilot workload is high at best of times during those flight phases in day VFR. Technology is great (just follow the magenta line) but is just one tool in the bag.

Back to Thailand: sure, there are hundreds of unemployed CPL holders here. But also many trained to standards that could be better: one CPL holder I know did ONE solo flight during training. Every other 'solo' flight was two students in the aircraft, so one was PF and one was PM, on basis that this was good for experience building.

Another went (just before Covid) for an assessment with Qatar and was told that, basically, she'd need to re-do much of her training to meet the required standard.

There are also a lot of young people here who've become pilots because it's 'cool' or 'high status', not because they love flying/aviation.

No need to be sarcastic.

All EU airlines dismissed a lot of pilots during Covid. And because "pilot" is not a profession, these pilots got no sufficient social benefits and we're forced to look for jobs somewhere else.

After Covid the airlines were looking desperately for pilots. But....there was no Thai pilot employed by Lufthansa Group. Short time contracts were issued for some coming back from South America, where they found a job during Covid.

Feel free to ask more. 🤗

They are talking about Bangkok Airways.

They have wet-leased two Amelia Airways A320s which will be flown and crewed by some foreigners as they do not have enough planes to service all their routes.

Amelia will operate Bangkok Airways routes from 1st December to 29th March 2025.

This is nothing new.

Bangkok Airways ran a couple of planes from Berlin Airlines some years ago but no one made a fuss back then.

All jobs are barred in Thailand as Thais can do everything. That is why it is almost impossible to do anything here. Reason is simple, Thailand doesn't want any ideas from other countries in their land. Thailand is already the hub of everything and no better country than here.... at least that is what they think. But they can't do without it... Outdated laws are holding the country back. Get a long term visa with a workpermit included as in other countries.. Of course without some special occupations as doctors, pharmacists, etc which need a special education. Thailand would become a much better place for retirees and expats too

I know of two Thai pilots that are currently employed by a major middle eastern airline company.  One had been a Captain with Thai Airways for more than 20 years.  Both were educated abroad for both high school and then university prior to attending a commercial pilot school abroad.

Of course, I agree with you, and I guess many competent Thai pilots are up in the sky doing a good job, contrary to some AN members.

TBH my reply was only intended to make the other poster happy to end the meaningless argument.
