Na Fan Posted December 17, 2024 Posted December 17, 2024 Lived here for more than a decade and mostly happily so. But this one thing seriously annoys the hell out of me. Why does everyone feel like they can just walk into your property? There is a door bell. You can ring it. There is a door. You can knock. You have a voice. You can ask before you enter. But most people just don't give a damn and just walk right in, as if they owned the damn place. What the hell is up with that?! I am seriously asking. What are they thinking? It must be some cultural thing? But what on earth is the thinking behind it? It would never even occur to me to do this to someone else. 1 1
Popular Post G_Money Posted December 17, 2024 Popular Post Posted December 17, 2024 1. Who are these people walking in? Neighbors, total strangers, Thai post, family members, wife’s or GF relatives? 2. Does your door have locks? 4 6

daveAustin Posted December 17, 2024 Posted December 17, 2024 You gotta put your foot down and set boundaries from day one. 1 1
Popular Post KhunLA Posted December 17, 2024 Popular Post Posted December 17, 2024 You could actually tell them not to. If they don't get the message, lock the door, then I guess they will have to knock. First wife's family & friends did that, till I told them not to, and the addition of a 3 meter front wall w/locked door enforced that rule. 2 1 2

Yes, sure, but it feels silly to have to lock your door while you're at home. Also difficult to handle with kids as they go in and out a lot. 1
Na Fan Posted December 17, 2024 Author Posted December 17, 2024 And to be clear, I mean INTO THE HOUSE. Not into the yard or lawn or driveway. They walk right into the living room. 2 1

Hummin Posted December 17, 2024 Posted December 17, 2024 We have a dog who just the way he look, nobody comes without calling first. The other dog is in his kennel during to day, and released in the evening, so no surprises here at the doorstep. 1 1

Popular Post Hummin Posted December 17, 2024 Popular Post Posted December 17, 2024 Central Thailand is big, but I guess a smaller a Village where everybody knows everyone, and local custom is to drop by and chat for hours, make small things for budda days, etc? At my parents in law house, it is like that, and the whole street is mostly family, and people who have lived all their lives there 2 6

Any way, you live in a rented flat, so you will NEVER have a problem, try thinking about those who live in real properties, gardens, etc.. Thailand is NOT faragland, they have a way of life very different, including visiting habits.......😋 1 1 1 2
Ralf001 Posted December 17, 2024 Posted December 17, 2024 Yeah 3m walls here and video door bell on the gate. Only those that have permission enter. 2 1

They will not adopt or change "their way" of doing things. Even 2 hours works takes my way, takes them a whole day if lucky.
MalcolmB Posted December 17, 2024 Posted December 17, 2024 Can you speak Thai? They probably just ignore you if not. 1 1

No they don't, but they may do in your bar hang-outs....... But, we know you don't speak Thai, only been here a few months, your flip-flops may get you ignored though.....😬 2

Besides i need the privacy, since not a big fan of wearing clothes. Back yard sloped down a wee bit, and a view, sort of, other side of the seasonal stream. Plenty of areas to sit, all without annoying in-laws or unwanted neighbors popping in at a whim 😎 No dog when living there ... Actually the wall was a plus, when sitting on front porch ... ... and people love leaving doors open, and would hate to have our peacock get run over 🙄 or in the AC, looking out .. 2
