Fences, locked gates, and 9 medium to moderately large barking dogs takes care of that on our property.
Nothing like a pack of dogs with bared teeth to say, "No - you're not welcome to wander onto the property uninvited." 

"Your dogs may bite someone!!!"

You have to climb over a fence with is 6 feet high and either topped with barbed wire or spikes.  Anyone making onto the property are trespassing, and doing so at their own risk.

Why?  You're probably perceived as a "Rich Farang."  Ever hear of "Home Invasion."  I've lived here long enough to have seem multiple instances where farang end up dead and buried somewhere in the jungle after their home is robbed. It does happen.

My father had the habit of walking into people's houses unannounced and without knocking. It made the whole family cringe, but he always just said, "It's okay, they don't mind."

These kinds of posts always make me laugh.

 

I'm guessing the OP lives with a Thai partner.

I agree with your second sentence. 

 

I live in a village. I get on well with my in laws, all 50 or so of them, and the neighbours. 

 

My wife set the house rules with regards to people walking in, with input from me. The garden gate is always open. Visitors wait prior to entering the house. 

 

It's great. I love my surroundings.

How many Thais did you ask these questions?

If I would want to know why this is the way it is, I would ask my Thai girlfriend, or other Thai people who I see regularly.

 

It seems to me sometimes people ask questions here to rant about what they don't like - and I understand that.

But if you really want answers, then don't ask farangs in a farang forum. Ask Thai people.

An electric gate with a bell will solve your problem. What you describe happen in the countryside where people know each other. Same in Western countries btw.

Do you ever visit any of these people's houses?  Maybe just walk in there house and see if they have a shocked look on their face and ask why the foreigner just walked in.  Then say now you know how I feel.
