My Tefal Toaster suddenly stopped popping. Now, house full of smoke. Why?

Suddenly, today, after having used this Tefal Toaster very infrequently, the auto-pop-up function stopped functioning.

I was in another room, with the AC blasting, and with the door closed.

The result is that the entire house, except my bedroom, is full of smoke.

Why did this happen?

How could a pop-up Tefal Toaster suddenly stop popping?

I thought that the pop-up function on these toasters should be the very last thing to fail, because...of course...this might be a serious smoke hazard that could cause damage to furnishings.

Also, it might even be a safety hazard.

But no.

The Toaster kept toasting. And, it toasted and toasted until the slice of bread was reduced to nothing more than a black, hard, cinder of burned wheat.

The question is why this happens to a toaster.

Also, how can it be fixed.

The toaster cost about Bt.800 or more.

And now, I have smoke in my other ACs which were also going full blast.

I am not sure if this smoke smell, which has infiltrated everything in the house, can ever be completely cleaned out...meaning the smell of it.

Now, after using a large fan, I still have this sickly cigarette kind of smell.

Not sure if this can be cleaned out of the ACs, even with washing.

But, how to fix the toaster, and WHAT went wrong with it in the first place?

Such a mystery.

Thank you.

Gamma

I think Lazada might not give me money back, even if I knew how to process something like that.  I have never gotten money back in the past.  Only a credit which I find it hard to use.

Note:  Also, I am thinking about buying one of those Tefal egg timers, so that if the Tefal toaster does not pop, then I will know that I need to check it out.  But then, if the Tefal timer's alarm were to fail, then I might need to buy a second alarm, as a backup, or maybe three, just to be sure.

What WILL you think of next?

How old is this naughty po-less toaster?

Take photos and send to Tefal, with proof of purchase. serial number and Model number  if possible, and send to Tefal, who are a very reputable company, see what they say.

Or was it a fake Tefal for only Bht 800?

Stick a knife in it...   wiggle it about a bit...

That only works if it's plugged in.

Don't laugh - my stepson did exactly that!  Good job that we have Safety Cut.

Buy one of these , it will outlast you , we got ours as a wedding present in March 1986 and it is still going strong to this day and has never required any spare parts or repairs despite being used daily , completely mechanical , no pop-up feature , cuts off when timer spring unwinds , then keeps toast warm.

For someone who pretends to be so smart and educated my opinion is that you never learned

a lot!

There is only one way to make toast!

Also, these toast better, too.

Many years ago, probably around the year 1950, our family bought a toaster which lasted for a very long time.

Not sure how long.

Probably 50 years, or so.

Now the Tefal Toaster stops Popping after One year of almost no use?

Why is this?

Also, the smoke from the Tefal Toaster Disaster has now completely permeated all spaces, rooms, ACs, ceilings, and everything else.

Everything but, very luckily, my bedroom.

So, how to get rid of the stink?

And, in addition, my short term solution, since I do need my toast and tea, is to move the toaster out on my lawn, using a long electrical cable, and toast far away from anything valuable, using this Tefal Toaster.

As long as the this toaster only smokes outside, then I see nothing negative in this plan.

After all, there is already so much smoke in Chiang Mai that nobody will notice the smell of burning toast.

OK

Here is the one that I bought:

Here is the culprit, for sure....exact same thing...

And, I will follow your suggestion.

I will photo the black cinder plus the toaster and email to Tefal....if I can find the correct email address.

But just wondering if they will even respond.

Bet you he had inadvertently set it to high and forgot about it being in the other room. There was some smoke, but its GG and his "artistic license". 🤣😂

I see now, top of the line for 850B.

a.  NO....  The setting was on 3

b.  Yes, price is 850B

c.  Yet, it is not a fake product but a real TEFAL Toaster....

Same as this one from Tefal....

d.  Are you implying that due to paying only 850B, then its OK to be smoked out of one's house?  First time I have heard this logic.

Correct.

No smoke detectors.

Maybe i will buy a Tefal smoke detector.

(Or, maybe this, since I will not buy from Thailand....obviously....)......

And, yes, a very good suggestion.

The above unit is 49USD on Amazon.

But, it does not ship here.

Not sure why.

Too good for Thailand?

If not, then why?

What you really need is the toaster that you add water toIMG_1981.thumb.jpeg.caecb86f2b512a3e944925b8ae979227.jpeg

that’s where you add about 5cc of water.

I get crunchy brown outside with fluffy soft insides. 1 peace of thick toast takes 5:30 at 230C from frozen. If I used a regular toaster it would be crunchy all through.

its a Chinese copy of the BALMUDA and is roughly ⅓ the price

if your spoken mandarin is good enough the QR code will provide information videos

I know what it is.

It's a 12Liter XiaoMi toaster oven.

Maybe you are correct.

I should never again buy a toaster....at least not in Thailand.

Either the heating element fails after less than a year.

Or, my house gets filled with smoke which will probably never leave.

Or, what next?

House on fire?

Such garbage I never saw before buying from a few local retailers or online retailers.

No More.

I just purchased 3 smoke detectors...but.....NOT....

From any retailer in Thailand....

I am not THAT crazy....maybe....

I think I might try your idea of a Toaster Oven.

But, I will NOT buy it from around these parts....

My Chinese friends, many of whom are now living in Thailand for different periods of time tell me locally sourced products are overly-expensive and, just what I say, most garbage quality.

You get what you pay for.

Importers can easily go to the Canton Fair in GuangDong and get ANY kind of quality they like, at a corresponding price.

I do not blame the Chinese manufacturers.

I look to the importers and the people that encourage garbage consumption by not demanding higher quality, and being satisfied with what they are getting, which is inferior quality, and short-life-span junk.

Thank you for your caring.

I just purchased three smoke detectors.

I had not been aware than anyone here cared two-cents for my safety.

I purchased an X-Sense detector.  I'm  glad to know it's made in China.
