I would rather have your pro active attitude than some people i know your age who can't do anything for themseves without been coaxed into doing basic stuff.

Don't we all spend our days thinking about things?

Not so obsessively that it destroys our quality of life, no.

All of the meditative traditions like Buddhist, Hindu, and Western Yoga start with "calm abiding" meditation. Most use focus on some object, such as one's own breath. Relaxing the mind is like an inner pinball game - it's an acquired skill that gets more satisfying as you develop. There are plenty of online instructions and tutorials on youtube if you can't find someone to get you started.

The natural state of our minds underneath all our stressful inputs is peaceful happiness. Learning to let go of the thoughts is a skill that takes practice.

Sorry this may sound like I'm rambling on and this may sound like a '' pull your self together '' sort of post , but to me this situation is real and its becoming a nightmare. Going back many years , ever since I moved to Thailand and got married to my wonderful Thai wife, my mind / thinking process has steadily began to become what seems constantly overloaded . Every day now as soon as I wake up my thoughts go straight into overdrive, I'm thinking about this and I'm thinking about that , what if this happens or what if that happens or I have to go and do this or I have to do that . My mind is endlessly thinking and in most cases worrying about my life in general. This curse is effecting my sleep pattern , where getting a good nights sleep is now a luxury. As I lay in bed trying to go to sleep, my mind is still mulling over things that I know need to be done the next day , or planning on how to achieve some thing. My home desk is full of to do lists.

To try and help sort of calm me down , Ive tried natural supplements. Ive watched endless YouTube videos , to no avail. I now seem to be more susceptible to medical complaints, which I'm wondering if is due to my immune system being low . Ive also started to eat more comfort foods, my mind being in a state of what seems constantly overly active, is wearing me out.

I don't drink alcohol , and I cannot exercise  due to a foot issue.

I must admit that I'm not that keen in talking to a medical professional .

I was wondering if there was some thing drug related that I could take on a daily basis , that may help in calming my mind down .

I'm in my late 70's and feel that at my time of life I should by now be enjoying my golden years , but sadly my mind just won't let me rest in peace .

It happened to me mid flight once. I took a beta blocker (bisoprolol) and pretty much nodded off for the rest of the flight.

You could take up drinking ....   I guarantee you'll get a good nights sleep.

start off slowly,    1-2 bottles Chang first night

the 2-3 bottles the second day ... then 3-4 on the third day ... then when you get to throwing down 6-7 Chang you'll sleep like a baby.

Try weed.

If you don't want to get high try CBD oil, i've tried it and never rated it but i like to get high.

Since the legalisation of weed, most of my aches and pains have gone and i sleep 6-7 hours deep each night, what's not to like?

I read this book many years ago and I still remember it as being very beneficial. If you rather read the book you can get it online I'm sure it's very old but trust me it is absolutely a fantastic read but the YouTube link is free audible version there's a reason these books that are 50 plus years old are still available.

Enjoy.

As others have suggested, get checked out by a professional. You could be suffering from of mild panic hypertension or any number of other issues. But while you are doing that replace thoughts with another thought like counting backwards from 100. This is not a cure but it could temporarily alliviate the condition.

I once heard a philosopher say the mind is like a restless drunken monkey that's been bit by a scorpion. There's no question that the Mind can get a hold of us if we let it. It can be our best friend or it can be our worst enemy. You must exercise mental discipline And wrestle control of your mind. Whether it's through repetitive mantras, meditation, some form of concentration, or mental exercises.

It's imperative that you do that or else the remainder of your life is going to be pure misery.

You're probably under stimulated living isolated with Thai people who are famously simple minded and care free. Exercise is extremely important for me but you probably need to exercise your brain too.   I'd find a new hobby which challenges the mind and spend most of your day doing that.

And the beauty of it is, eventually you won't wake up at all. Problem solved!

Or, swap thinking for drinking. Same result.

I think that maybe this is an age issue. I turned 91 a couple of weeks ago and certainly do not worry too much if at all during the day. But during the night after the usual trips to the toilet I have difficulty getting back to sleep. I've found the answer is reading a book, which sends me off to sleep. Fortunately, I don't have any medical problems that I'm aware of other than bits wearing out that come with old age. I'm not looking forward to it.😉

Buddha's Teachings on the Restless Mind

  • The Restless Mind as the Enemy:
The Buddha described the untamed mind as an enemy because it clings, wanders, and creates illusions of permanence.
"The mind is difficult to control; swiftly and lightly, it moves and lands wherever it pleases."Dhammapada

  • Redirecting the Restless Mind:

    • Focus on the breath to anchor it.
    • Practice mindfulness or engage in wholesome activities to ground the mind.
  • Reframe the Struggle:
View the restless mind as a teacher. Each moment of distraction is an opportunity to gently guide it back.

I second the magnesium glycinate...it calms the mind better than any other form of magnesium. Perhaps you could also Google ADHD and see if you have any of the other symptoms. The hyperactivity is often of the mind. It is a common misconception that it is solely physical.  I know because my own mind is overactive due to marginal ADHD.

I had similar issues with my mind running overtime constantly due to several situations causing me anxiety.

Got tablets called Oxetine 20 which you take 1 a day . Think I got them from pharmacy and weren't expensive.

There are no side effects that I noticed at all and they totally cleared my mind stopping it running all the time . Took them for 3 months with no problem .

A good smoke/ edible/ THC oil drops would do the job.

Actually, that "smoke" could ease your mind a lot! Incredible how this herb relaxes people! 😃

A great deal of information is supplied here by helpful posters. The amount of contradiction may be less than helpful.

I would happily meet and talk with you if you are in Pattaya: zero cost, no strings.

My training is as a health professional, but I am retired and have no intention of working in Thailand.

That does not mean I have retired my wish to assist other humans simply by having a chat.
