It's  not about "different tastes and opinions" - we can all take that for granted.

But one good function of having a site like this is to gather some information about what kind of movie/series it is....give me just a sentence telling me what the main theme or action is about will be sufficient to let me know whether it's worth "looking for" myself.

TBF, most posts have got a youtube clip or a link to IMDB.

If they haven't, it's not hard to have a look.

  • When you get very old you can re-watch stuff from a month ago and have no idea that you have seen it before.

Going back a few years, but I remember really enjoying the first three seasons, but had to stop in season 4 when Danes's character became (for me) unbearably irritating.  Everything began to be focused on her, so that even a dog barking might be the occasion for the camera to zero in on her face to see her bulging eyes as she went into panic mode.

She's still playing that same panic mode, or about to have a nervous breakdown look in The Beast In Me. It does get pretty irritating after a while, and if you read some of the reviews on IMDB a lot of people felt the same and gave up after an episode or two.

The fact that Claire Danes is playing a role seems to have escaped some people.
She must be good — the critics here clearly fell for it.

I'm with giddyup on this, the same face as in Homeland. Terribly irritating after a while.

Claire Danes can't control if you watched Homeland. Many great actors have a similarity in how they play different roles.

Just finished watching Long Bright River on All4 (Channel 4 UK on demand). Eight part crime drama starring Amanda Seyfried (surprisingly good) as a police officer in Philadelphia investigating a series of murders of opioid addicted women whilst also trying to find her homeless, drug addicted sister.

It's quite a gritty watch and you have to pay attention as a good chunk of the story is told in flashbacks. It won't be everybody's cup of Darjeeling but I enjoyed it.

IMDb rating 6.9/10.

I have to agree.  I made it through the whole Homeland series for the story lines, but I think she is a lousy actress, comes across as a spoiled, bitchy girlfriend IMO.  I dl'd the first episode of Beast and within a minute or two there is a close-up of her face doing a concerned look.  "Oh, this again!"  then into the bin.

I was hoping they would do a follow-on series to Homeland that would have had Brody's daughter (last seen cleaning rooms at a motel) as a counterintelligence agent, a vehement anti-jihadi out to revenge what they did to her father and family.

Finally, a little common ground.

I saw "The Beast in Me" first, and I'm a few episodes into Homeland and it's starting to bug a bit, but in both cases, she plays a skitzo gal, and she certainly looks it.

Harrison Ford makes the same face in every movie too.

Down Cemetery Road

Apple TV

adapted from Mick Herron's (Slow Horses) book.

watched the first ep, looks good. Seven eps, six released to date.

Have just watched the movie "Relay" which has been mentioned on here and thought it was very good, starring Riz Ahmed, Lily James and Sam Worthington and the whole movie plays the viewer along, Agatha Christie style, so there is a twist in it but I won't spoil it for the posters......well worth a watch IMO.

Full of jaw-dropping twists, the extraordinary story of the first murder in Orkney for 25 years, when the police suspect a schoolboy of shooting dead a waiter in a restaurant.

I was just going to post about this! Watched it last night. Fascinating. If a movie was made of this story you would think it was too far fetched.

I watched it on BBC iPlayer.

Probably could've been done in 2 episodes, not 3, but there were quite a few twists in the last episode.

A new 9 part drama series starting on Channel 4 (UK) tonight called Say Nothing. Based in Northern Ireland, it tells the stories of some of the key members of the IRA during The Troubles. Gripping, gritty and harrowing is how it is described.

First episode on 9pm UK time so 4am (tomorrow) Thai time. I believe the whole series may be available on All4 from tomorrow. I will check and report back tomorrow.

Is this the one that came out Nov 2024? 9 episodes -  Say Nothing TV Mini Series  2024

A gripping story of murder and memory spanning four tumultuous decades during The Troubles in Northern Ireland.

Seems to be although it was only available via Disney+ for UK viewers (so I suspect not many got to see it) and Hulu (whatever that is?) in the US.

I wasn't aware that it had previously been aired albeit via a limited paid service.

It's very good.

Was mentioned last year.

It's been available for download for quite a while.

Yes, I watched Say Nothing a while back and it was very good IMHO.

All episodes are now available on ALL4 (channel 4 on demand service). As others have pointed out, the series previously aired in November 2024 and is available to download from other services.

The Last Samurai, a Netflix Japanese drama, is very good, sort of like a Japanese Squid Game, only with Samurai out to kill each other. Six part series, unfortunately it ends on a cliffhanger so it will be a long wait for the resolution.

Hmmm.....I'm not altogether sure that they got the right man in the end and I'm wondering if any of the other posters here have a different view of it?

The only "sighting" of the 15 year old who supposedly committed the killing was seen by a guy who really couldn't remember too much about the whole episode, and and he described the gun as being silver in colour, whereas others in the restaurant gave different opinions as to the colour?

Then, for me anyway, there didn't appear to be a motive and suggesting that the boy was "racist" just doesn't fit that he would walk up to an Indian waiter and shoot him in the head for no reason other than his colour? I know folks could argue that that is what racism is all about, but at the age of 15???

Then the discovery by the journalist that a similar killing had taken place in London, by two guys who lived very close to where the Indian waiter used to work, from what I could see, wasn't followed up?

For me it was an unsatisfactory conclusion and I wonder if there are other posters who can throw some light on what I may have missed?

I decided to watch a clip of it and nothing that I saw in that clip has yet persuaded me to download it!

For the life of me I couldn't imagine a fat/overweight Russell Crowe in that role and just looking at him made me think of other movies that he had been in and I just couldn't get that out of my mind!

So I'm in the process of downloading the original 1961 movie called, "Judgement at Nuremberg" which is supposedly the be all and end all of Nuremberg movies!!

Apologies if this has been mentioned already...

Master and Commander was good..I always remember the lessor of two weevils joke.

Watched Predator: Badlands, started out questionable, and ended up OK, good time killer, and better than I expected.  Ending set up for a possible Badlands 2.

Tried watching Tron Ares ... I didn't last long, and same as the previous Tron  movies, not a fan of those.
