Health Insurance in Thailand After Leaving Employment
It’s unfortunate to hear that this is a common situation... it does seem like a “locked-in” scenario where the insurance company has all the leverage. Essentially, it feels like I have no choice but to accept their conditions or go without (private) coverage altogether, which doesn’t leave much room for negotiation or alternatives. I’m based in Samut Prakan, not far from Bangkok. I haven’t received the list of SSO hospitals yet, but I’ll share the options here once I have them. The system here seems to lean much more in favor of the insurers compared to Western countries, especially with the flexibility to increase premiums and impose exclusions. I hadn’t thought about expat policies as an option, but as you say my pre-existing conditions might complicate things. For context, I have hypercholesterolemia, a family history of heart disease, and I’ve been on rosuvastatin for the past seven years. I’m not sure how these would affect eligibility or premiums for international policies, but I might look into it further. Thanks again for taking the time to explain these points. Your insights have been really helpful! -

Revenue Department boss calls on tax residents in Thailand to file 2024 returns by March 31
In the US I don't even have to file any tax return 🤔. My income + SS pension won't be taxable. And I have already paid tax to IRS (as income) for my savings accounts in bank. But my guess is this is about way larger incomes or gray money that get in Thailand by those their children drive RR in streets of BKK. IMO they still have conflict between their own and don't really know how to do this or just want to keep it intentionally confusing. -

Living in Koh Samui?
When I needed storage for my moved items from Europe until my house was finished, I rented a shop unit in second line from the Ring Road for 3,000 baht per month. I paid the neighbour that lived in her laundry-shop, 500 baht a month to look after my unit. A shop-unit might be a better place for storage than a small bungalow. There are still many available shop-units, while the cheap bungalows are often fully booked. The ones I know and mentioned as example, are at the moment full of longer-term budget-staying foreigners. -

That's a great point. Makes me ponder who's running the show right now. -

Double Taxation Avoidance Agreement (DTAA) between Thailand and Australia
I can work around the transfers but if they want to start taxing worldwide income irrespectively whether the income was transferred or not, I would have real issues. Too much uncertainty at the moment, the 100% fix is to spend less than 180 days.I live off money I transferred in 2022, but I'm planning to move to DTV, this would free my 800k in the bank to be used. -

EV Charging Stations (CS)
I assume the 30K privilege is already showing in your ReverSharger app which means you would have provided the necessary info already to include the VIN number of the BYD vehicle you own. If the privilege is showing then it should just be a matter of charging that vehicle (vs another vehicle) to get the free charging (i.e., a credit deduction from the 30K)....and of course picking that specific privilege as the payment option. -
