Python Sunbathes on Temple Wall, Prompting Lottery Fever Among Locals

A large reticulated python was discovered basking on the wall of Wat Thung Sadaeng in Phetchabun Province, causing a stir among residents and sparking a wave of lottery fever. The snake, approximately 2.5 metres long, appeared unusually large around its midsection, prompting speculation it had recently devoured a sizeable meal.

The incident was brought to public attention when a Facebook user posted a video with the caption: “It’s a big one. The rescue team is relocating it to the wild.” The footage captured local disaster prevention officials carefully capturing the snake to release it back into its natural habitat.

The video attracted a flurry of comments, with one user noting, “It’s huge! If I saw it at night, I’d have reversed my car in panic,” while another added, “There’s another one nearby, according to Uncle Jit!” Speculation also circulated about the snake’s bulging abdomen, with some suggesting it had consumed a large animal.

Kittisak Sangketdee, a member of the Phetchabun municipal council, confirmed that he received reports from locals about the snake sunbathing on the temple’s wall. Upon inspection, he found the reticulated python with its noticeably swollen belly.

Officials used a snake catcher pole to carefully remove the snake and attempted to place it in a fertiliser sack. However, the sack proved too small, forcing the team to lift the snake onto a pickup truck for transportation to the wild, a process they described as “rather cumbersome.”

The discovery of the python also caught the attention of lottery enthusiasts, who seized the opportunity to speculate on “lucky numbers.” Many zeroed in on the temple’s address, 716, as a potential winner.

Kittisak revealed that the snake had been spotted earlier on the night of 7 January, crossing from behind Wat Thung Sadaeng School towards the temple grounds. Although residents were warned to stay alert, the snake evaded capture until it was seen basking in the sun.

Officials have since relocated the snake to a safe, natural environment, ensuring the safety of both locals and wildlife. Meanwhile, residents remain hopeful that their newfound “guardian” might bring them luck in the upcoming lottery draw.

No they did the correct thing by removing it, if they leave it the snake can cause damage not only to property but to itself,  snake should be remove correctly and relocated to a safe place, natural environment.

(By the way in the video he is not harming the snake he has the right equipment )
