I have asked this question elsewhere and I have been told that it is not required but I thought I would ask here anyway, just to reassure myself.

 

I am from the UK and I'm going to Thailand in the summer for a surgery. As I can travel to Thailand for 60 days visa exempt (+30 day extension) I just want to confirm that going to Thailand for a surgery (it will be a 3hr surgery, according to the surgeon) is fine? I am going for a total of 18 days and I will be having the surgery on the second day, recovery is ~1 day and then the rest of the time in Thailand I am expecting to go explore Bangkok.

 

I am only there for a total of 18 days. The hospital are the ones who have told me when to book my flights for (the day to arrive and to leave) and they don't expect me to be there for more than 18 days. I have looked at multiple Thai medical tourism websites that all say that people from the UK and multiple other (I think about 90) countries don't need a visa to enter and only certain surgeries would require the use of a medical visa because of the length of stay required for recovery. Also, as I said, others have told me that visa exempt is fine, as I'll be back out of Thailand well within the time.

 

I'm going for a browlift and liplift if that makes a difference?

Just don't go putting them in less than sanitary places ( nudge nudge ) and you should be fine with that time.

 

I hope you didn't go for the cheap end surgery, if you want a good result. In LOS you get what you pay for.

 

Have good travel insurance in case of unexpected complications. No surgery is 100% guaranteed to not have complications, which is why you have to sign a release before the operation.

Yeah, I guess there is always risk but It's a fairly renowned surgeon I'm going to and his results have been, from what I've seen anyway, pretty amazing.

 

It's UK prices cheap but still many thousands of pounds I've paid. It will actually be the most expensive single purchase I have ever made. I was looking at insurance too, there is only one insurance company I've found that covers surgical procedures too, so I'd imagine I'd end up going with them and it seems a comprehensive cover too.

OP, don't wish to sound rude but your medical treatment is irrelevant.

 

You can enter Thailand visa exempt and will receive a 60 day stamp.

Do you have a return ticket?

I do have a return ticket. Booked at the same time as the flight out, so both the outbound and inbound are on the same e-ticket.

I asked as the airline at departure may request one if flying visa exempt.

Make your roundtrip with flex tickets in case you need or want to change your plans. Just in case you have some complications and need to stay longer for another visit with your Dr.

I think this is fairly accurate, although what I'm going for is a little more involved than a 'basic' browlift, so what I'm paying would be a little more than this.

Good point. Also OP could consider making it into break from UK cold.

OP, be aware that your 60 day stamp can be extended by 30 days at immigration. Cost 1900b .

Well, I have tickets that I can change but probably at a cost. Tickets with full flexibility were just way too expensive. I would either need to pay to change or buy new tickets should I want to stay longer.

 

I am actually staying the entire time in facilities owned by the hospital and will still have twice daily nurse visits and have access to the doctor during my entire time too. hopefully that is sufficient. They seem to think it is.

Is it easy to get an extension? Say I did want to extend, what is the process? Are there immigration offices I would need to visit?

It's a simple process.

Assume you will be in Bangkok. 

You attend immigration with some basic paperwork. 

In the main a TM7 form with picture.

You can obtain more details if decide to go down that track.

Curious if a 60 day stamp is guaranteed for Brits ( or others with similar entry now) this summer?  I never heard that info yet.

Not sure what you mean.

Visa exempt entry was changed from 30 days to 60 days several months ago. 

No indication at this point if will be changed back to 30.

I was thinking OP was coming in the summer and it always seems these " schemes " Thailand has for entries seem to change with barely a months notice. Just like when the 60 day exempt started somewhat suddenly. That's all. I just think it's good to check a few weeks before you come here ( especially for 30 days + ) to check what Thailand is offering. If it goes back to 30 or remember 45? Some peeps may need the 60 day tourist visa again which can still be extended 30 days for 1900B.

I'm not on your page.

Thinking any change visa exempt entry 60 back to 30 days will be advised well in advance.

Folk can make plans according.

In any event the OP requires less than 60.

Worse case OP can enter 30 day ve and obtain 30 day extension.
