Popular Post Celsius Posted January 17 Popular Post Posted January 17 I know already ... no need to announce my departure. Hear me out!!!! I was chatting with my friend from Serbia who came to visit, and she basically looked at me like I was an idiot and asked, "Why on earth are you declaring your Toronto condo rental to Canada?!" (And that was just the tip of the iceberg.) She was like, "Why bother filing taxes in Canada when you don’t even live there?!" It was a rapid-fire "Why this?" and "Why that?" like I had just invented a new form of self-sabotage. Then I realized I'm surrounded by the same woke individuals who are desperately scrambling to file a tax return here in Thailand out of all places. I hope Thailand implements 8 million baht retirement extension and 15 day report. You deserve it. I'm out and I'll be watching that door thanx in advance. 18 14 2 2 22 2

I'm not worried at all about any new taxes in Thailand. I would bet you would fall into the category that earns income and resides here to avoid paying taxes on that income. If you have paid taxes in another country, I would chill and wait and see. Doubt your tax bill will more than zero assuming you aren't a freeloader. Severe anxiety sucks dude! 2 1 1 4

The tax is not new, they just never enforced on foreigners staying here, that weren't working here. Or apparently, even Thais, that brought money in from outside Thailand, apparently. I guess now that they need more tax revenue, and now may have the means to collect, will attempt to pump up the coffers. 2 5

I signed up for yearly visa extensions and 90 day reports which I don't do, just pay a fine. I did not sign up to do annual taxes to Thai government, bill or no tax bill. 1 2 2 1 1 4
Popular Post Gottfrid Posted January 17 Popular Post Posted January 17 It has been nice to have you here. Take care, and just go find another country were you can avoid paying tax. What is the fine for not doing the 90 day reporting?

Popular Post Highball Posted January 17 Popular Post Posted January 17 If I weren't married I would leave as well. Thailand is as comfortable as it ever was, but I've lost tremendous respect for Thailand. Especially with the visas that are on offer now it's far too easy just to spend months in other parts of Southeast Asia or perhaps Eastern Europe or even the Balkans. So many wealthy and corrupt Thais pay little or no tax. Instead of trying to tidy this up they go after who else but the "rich" farang. It's an old saw we know very well. I'm extremely unimpressed with the current government especially all of the handouts that have done absolutely nothing to stimulate the economy. Of course, they were never designed to, but rather buy votes. The thing is we receive absolutely nothing except the right to exist in the country after paying Thai taxes. Recently, I was denied SSO insurance based on some ridiculous technicality. I was employed in the country 10 years and paid into SSO for seven of the 10 years. This week I went to pick up my visa extension and there were the typical 400 heads of rabble all queuing and shifting about like a herd of corralled stallions. One very very simple thing that immigration could do is just simply extend the visa extension to 2 years. They would cut the paperwork in half overnight. Judging by the last few years I think O visa group is down and the others are way up. Therefore I need to stand in line to get a ticket with hundreds of tourists and sundry. Of course there is no appointment online despite having online bookings for well over a year now. But you see insult that I have to show at 630am and jockey for a q-ticket.. Some weeks ago I met up with a friend and we did a pub crawl between nana and cowboy. This entire thing is completely collapsed. I guess it's probably moved to Pattaya, but that place looks to be entirely mobbed by Indians. By all means take your leave. Don't mind the posters here that cannot afford to do so and have no imagination as to where to go and or perhaps fearful of the entire process of leaving. 4 1 2 4 4

Popular Post Highball Posted January 17 Popular Post Posted January 17 If you are healthy enough it's quite easy to bounce between a few countries annually. I used to do it until I met my wife and was subsequently married 2 years later. This does get more difficult as one ages. Especially if they've spent a lifetime traveling or just the opposite have no travel experience. Certainly if I was in my 50s I wouldn't be sticking around. 1 2

Maybe, but you have to steer clear of Toronto and all the big cities ruled by the radical woke leftists. My mates in Alberta and Saskatchewan tell me that the cities in those provinces are the way to go, under the radar. No one in Candada cares about those cities. You can get away with anything. 2 3 1 1 1

As for most of us living here off of saving, this will IMO be a nothing burger 🙂 Could be wrong but what is the point of worrying about something that we really have no way of forecasting the final outcome. For a couple years now these debates have been happening which is entertaining. I'll miss them but still think this topic has ways to run. 1 1

Highball Posted January 17 Posted January 17 Something else that has occurred to me. The Chinese with all of their kidnappings both kidnapper and victim, the fake corporations, calls centers, general crimes then on top of this all of the other drama from the Chinese. I think that rather than being a cash cow they are an extreme draw on the Thai government coffers. Moreover, whether it's on a number of Thai news blogs or here on asean now it seems not a day goes by that a serious fight resulting in serious injury and additionally some form of foreign death reported. These are now daily occurrences. Letting in all these miscreants is actually costing the government money. Meanwhile, most married people over 50 just minding their own business and supporting the wife and perhaps even her family. 2
