Have you been scammed/overcharged at 7-11?

Featured Replies

This happened to me a few times at 7-11's frequented by tourists in Pattaya. When they see that you don't pay attention to how they scan the items or are talking to someone or in a rush, they may inflate the bill. And of course they won't give you a receipt. Even when I asked for it, she lied some BS. Has this happened to you?

Now I want to catch them red handed. I will pick lots of stuff and check the prices and then pretend that I am in a rush or talking on the phone and don't care about what they are doing. And then confront them with clear evidence.

Like I said, this happened at 7-11's frequented by tourists. Many of them are drunk/high and don't really care about receipts.

  ^Here

Not scammed but had an over zealous clerk for the first time last night. It was 11:58pm (even by his own watch), but he refused to serve alcohol saying it was no midnight. 'Cannot do midnight'.

I then showed him my watch, showed him the world clock on google, and asked to look at his watch, but then i think it became about honour and not wanting to climb down.

An odd one.

Actually just had a quick look at my receipt, and the crisps and chocolate i bought showed 11:59 so timing was fine.

Issue is he became so entrenched into the 'no alcohol' that he couldn't back down even when he realised he was wrong. It's an honour thing here - we call it ego in the west.

I don't say a word about other people being overcharged. I only said where this happened to me and what type of customers frequent this 7-11.

There are some 7/11's that cannot scan alchol past 11.55 PM (for some reason)

I've never experienced it at 7 Eleven but it's easy to prevent, work out the cost before you get to the till.

Burger King and Mister DIY tried the 100 baht short trick

If you paid by credit card or True money, how does the cashier gain from this over charging ?

I don't who is benefiting from that, maybe not only the cashier or they work as a team.

Never happened to me or rather I never check. Just be careful next time. We are in foreign land, its good to be careful whether at the cashier or on the road.

I've received too much change a couple of times and pointed it out to them.

One time I went in, bought a few items, and got shorted 100 baht. I know because I only had a 1000 baht note on me at the time. I STRONGLY suspect the cashier knew it - she was damned cute and quite a distraction, flirting heavily. I figured it was worth it. For sure a lot less than a lady drink.

Has this happened to you?

No, never!

If the cashier (in 7-11 and most supermarkets ) gives too much change to the customer it gets deducted from their salary (my thai wife used to work in a supermarket ,happened to her).

Not good when they are already on low wages.

I have had items scanned twice, so now I always look on the receipt for the number of items purchased. I also say out loud to them what money I am giving them, such as 500 Baht or 1 Thousand.

3 times it happened to me -- once at FamilyMart and twice Tesco-Lotus Express:

After leaving the store I realized that I had been given change as if I paid with a 1000 baht note and I had actually given the cashier a 500 baht note.

And it actually took some convincing each time for them to believe me when I went back to the store and explained in Thai what happened. At the FamilyMart they had to review the store video recording the next day.
