So background.

Some time back WISE wanted AU customers to create what I call a wallet.

They also created a new set of account details for this "wallet"

So I created a new "payee" in my Westpac banking app.

Finally sorted it out.

So my steps were transfer to my Wise wallet from my Westpac a/c.

The money lands instantly.

The open Wise app and from the wallet transfer to my Kasikorn a/c.

Easy.....

Then just now I get this in my Gmail.

In part it states

"
Next time you send us money for a AUD transfer, make sure to use our new account — you'll see the full details when you choose to pay by bank transfer.

Thanks,
The Wise team

What's the question?

This part.....

"Next time you send us money for a AUD transfer, make sure to use our new account"....

Not long ago Wise was not happy with AU transfers.

We were made to create a "Wallet"

You were given an individual account number to transfer to Wise wallet.

Obviously I had to add new payee to my Westpac app.

All good. Worked fine.

Have done few transfers using Wallet.

Then today I get the posted message.

Is the 'wallet' that they asked you to create not the same thing as this 'new account' that they want you to use? Maybe that's a default message sent to all those making AU transactions, despite you already using their preferred method?

Mind you, I wouldn't waste time asking forum members to guess on this issue. I would ask Wise.

Your right.

Just thought I would try forum on off chance some Oz person has had same email..

I mean here is my last transfer.

Seems to be money into my Wise Wallet then instantly to my Thai bank.

Just when you think you have it sorted something else pops up.

First of all I would verify it's not a scammer fishing for information.  Malwarebytes  is reporting AI generated phoney Google websites.  Not sure how it works, but a friend of ours in Bangkok has one of her customers reporting money lost from such a website.

I wonder if this is the reason. A while back wise changed their bank account numbers.

Opened a wise account a few years ago. About a year ago they said that account number was being phased out and to open a new account with them.

I only updated to this new account last month after receiving a similar message. The new account is a different branch and account number.

I transfer to this new wise account from my bank then send from the new wise account. It is fast and no messages.

Strange way to do business.  Financial institutions that I have accounts with and amended their account numbers have informed me what the new account number is and to notify anyone that needs to know.  I don't recall the exact wording, but I was not required to open a new account.

Looks like my memory was bad and i was remembering setting up the new account transfer details with my bank.

No problem.  Dealing with financial institutions today have become more complicated, especially with all new banking options plus the security threats that have become so commonplace.  Remembering details have become quite a chore and it can be very easy to forget them.

"Wise is now a direct member in the Australian payment systems"

Begs the question as to how they managed to cope as an indirect member of said payment systems, I think!

They would rely on a licensed partner company which explains the delays.

I have had many phishing emails carrying the Wise banner. I forward them to Wise.

Never click on a link in one of these.

I have used Wise for many years from OZ and, Iike Farma, got the same message from them after a transfer a few months ago.

I changed the original BSB account number to the one given in their message and have made several transfers using it since. The message was from Wise and would not appear to be a scam, but you are Wise to be cautious.

Definitely, caution is advised.  Scammers using AI to create fake websites are on the rise.

I think that I found the issue.

Bit embarrassing. Looked at my last 3 transfers.

Seems one of which I transferred from my Westpac app to WISE rather than the Wallet.

I don't know why you didn't receive directions to set up Wallet.

This specifically for Oz folk.

What we now do is transfer funds from Oz bank account to individual (own account) held with Wise.

For the transfer to Thai bank it goes from Wallet to Thai bank instantly..

Won't close this thread (yet) but thinking led bit of wild goose chase.

Yes I never received the request for the Wallet.

I have been Transferring for years with Wise and Always transferred funds from my Bank account in Aus to a Wise Bank account in Aus and Wise Always transferred my funds to my Bangkok bank account here in Thailand.

Never had a problem,  Sometimes they ask to Update ones Details and they changed their Banking Details a couple times.

May I ask...

Here is pic of my home screen WISE.

The AU left side with $120 balance is my wallet.

So you don't have that layout?

It was not presented to me as an option from WISE but rather a must do.

Sounds to me as if Wise AU is simply catching up with a system similar to that we've enjoyed in the UK for years. Instant transfers in followed by instant transfers out (to your Thai bank)

Welcome to the 21st century.

Wise would have had an arrangement with a "correspondent bank" , one that was a direct member in the Australian payment systems.

Possibly it took a long time for Wise to become one, or perhaps they waited till they were sure they had enough Australian custom to make it worth their while applying.
