The Bishop apparently doesn't understand that Jesus didn't support criminals. He was apparently a law abiding Jew.

You've got to be kidding.

Agreed, the church is not a place to ask for mercy for the poor and the persecuted. What would Jesus say to that kind of behaviour?

Mercy, of course. But not of one specific person, and not for specific, politically chosen, groups.

Jesus would say, and I paraphrase, 'render unto Caesar that which is Caesar's, and render unto God that which is God's'.

Whilst I don't incline far towards 'woke' positions generally, I thought Buddi's address was quite moving and to the point of tackling these issues with some humanity.

It was fun to watch the twisted expressions of the Trump clan as Buddi spoke. Trump is of course a monster - the narrowed eyes of the awful Melania also told a story - but she could get a massive payday by jumping ship, whyever would she stay ?

The rest of the Trump clan looked totally discomfited - the chritable view would be that some of them were secretly thinking, "Go Girl" !

About Melania. She has signed prenups and also updated contracts.

There is no way she profits from dumping him.

You're confusing mercy with enablement.

Proton - I don't know but you imply that you do.

Perhaps you could link some detailed evidence of a) Obama 'deporting millions' and b) the Bishop's reponse, to inform us all a little better.

Or is just 'trumpian' BS ?

Isn't one of Don the Con's family an avid hunter of African big game cats?

Arm the cat with a gun to make it fair.

Better yet - into the ring with you, mano a gato, sans weapons, and let's see who comes out alive...

I somehow think that phrase refers to taxation and "worship" rather than a theological point.

Possibly, I extrapolate the meaning as keeping the state and the church separate in general. In any case, her broken tropes about gay kids being in fear for their lives and illegal immigrants scrubbing her toilet while worrying about deportation were inappropriate and clumsy.  This event was supposed to showcase national unity, not be a kind of ersatz Festivus for bitter lefties.

I think she 'profits' by leaving him. She obviously hates him, (don't you watch the body language?), and her life must be a quite awful. Money isn't everything old Chap - or is it?

Thank for replying to that poster. Apparently he doesn't know much about what Jesus preached. Eg the poor are always with, so give them a few bucks. Nothing about giving criminals a pass.

Trump's response -- he calls her NASTY.

Yet he calls himself a Christian and Christians call him one of their own. I guess not putting his hand on a bible (two were offered by Melania) is kind of a hint.

You just don't get why you lost do you.

Or, heaven forbid, a religious service in the praise of our Lord.!

Personally, I would suggest that they should have scrubbed around the whole business. Trump doesn't have a jot of faith, it would seem doesn't have the most basic concept of it, doesn't even say the Lord's Prayer and has no principles at all let alone Christian ones; let us leave out grifting his own edition of the bible!

It was an entirely pointless exercise, with the added risk that the Secretary of Defence might get at the Communion Wine!

Only people with lotsacash say things like that. I suppose you think the best things in life are free too?

If, and that's if, Melania and Donald have had a falling out, it just makes them the same as the rest of the 50% of married people that end up divorced, not the only married people on the planet to have a problem.

Seems that psychological syndrome I can't name is still affecting a few posters.
