Starting tomorrow, the Ministry of Public Health will begin distributing over 8 million face masks across the country to tackle harmful PM 2.5 dust pollution. Vulnerable groups, including the elderly and those in high-risk areas, known as orange and red zones, can collect masks from public hospitals and health offices. Each person is eligible to receive one mask per day for up to seven days.

The ministry emphasizes there is no mask shortage, with ample supplies of both surgical and N95 masks available. Citizens are advised to monitor air quality levels before heading outdoors and to wear a mask if pollution levels are high to safeguard their health.

Cloth and paper masks don't work any better for filtering out PM 2.5 then they did Covid virus and for the same reasons.  Complete false sense of security. The only thing that works are serious, well-fitting respirators like 3M N95 and P100 filters.

KN94/N95 do have moderate effect on pollution but only when fitting the face well (which most people don't know how to achieve), then you have apart from the proper respirator like on your photo also electronic respirators - they use fans and HEPA filters. Probably most popular was LG Pure Care. But they are expensive and battery doesn't last very long, so they are OK for someone using it for a couple of hours outside, but not for someone wearing it all day. It is however more comfortable to breathe in due to fans blowing air inside and trying your face if it's hot. Because of the fans blowing in and having higher pressure inside than outside, they also don't have to seal that well, although the silicone mask around your nose and mouth is quite tight.

Back in 2018, or 2019, when CM experienced horrendous air pollution numbers, sometimes exceeding 400, and even 500, I purchased 200 3M FFP3 respirators.

Fortunately, even after the pandemic, I still have quite a few...yet to be used, and stored in a cool dry place.

They are genuine:

Probably, when these run out, I will buy the same or similar from 3M.

Someday, though, wearing respirators may become too tiresome....

And when this happens....

I must do my best to just learn how to....

Breathe underwater.

And, a Merman, I shall I be.

3M....All the Way!

Very useful for exercise outdoors, during most of the year.

One must learn to adjust to a situation that will not change for the better during our lifetimes....

But only deteriorate, ....

In coming years.

Burn on!

Burn on.....

Thankfully, there are some here who have been properly trained in Biosafety Level 4 (BSL-4) facilities...and therefore know how to properly fit respirators of various brands.

I know how to fit a mask, thankfully.

Hope you do, too.

Also, please remember to have someone, a friend, check your fit, before you go out in the Thailand smoke.....

Thank you.

Masks are mostly performative to make it seem like the govt. is doing something.  Most are not capable of filtering pm2.5.  Need to have N95 as people on here have pointed out.

Would be better to have air-purifiers in all indoor facilities.

Better still, stop crop burning & forest fire burning.  Have mechanisms that result in it being more economic for farmers to NOT burn than to burn.

It's great to see how this government knows how to "tackle" pollution. Free train rides and free masks.

Let them burn the sigar cane. No problem!!!!

Treating the symptom of air pollution without addressing the cause is not practical or ethical. Typical Thai goverment can not see beyond it nose !!!

Handing out face masks tackles nothing...... just like the government.

Wonderful. With the subsidised free public transport in BKK and acquiring masks to handle the air quality issues, enough government budget to provide xx% as defensible benefits to the power brokers.

Reduce government and nationalise where possible, get the pigs away from the trough.
