If you are retired, does it bother you that you will never be a Thai Permanent Resident?

  • When you've done it for close to 20yrs it's no big deal and a minor inconvenience,   It's only an irritation and a problem if you allow it to be. How you approach it is the key as with most

  • PR or not, you will continue to be seen as “lowly” just like the rest us, don’t you worry.

  • "especially when you are over 60 or so"   It is difficult for us "over 60's" when we cant even walk in to a room without forgetting why we went in there in the first place. 🤣🤣

PS:  Glad to see that you are acknowledging that you are Bob since you responded to my post that referenced him!

Bob spells his words exactly like that too.

No, Permanent Residency is far too expensive for me. I used to feel some regret that I didn't get Thai citizenship back in 1982, when I first returned to Thailand (retired from the Army), and it was easy and cheap.

It doesn't matter what you call things!

I have lived here "permanently" for 22 years already!

Effectively, only three times a year to organise 90 day as every year at extension time they do the fourth one automatically.

And who except you and a few Officials will even know you have PR?

I think it is fair to say that the benefits are minimal and for me completely unnecessary - how do you think your life will change by knowing you are a (formal) PR?

Many people on this forum allow things to bug them when they are not even affected!

Control yourself, manage others!

does it bother you that you have to perpetually go to immigration year in year out, photos, cap in hand, 800K bank balance etc just to stay here? it must be so cumbersome, especially when you are over 60 or so..

as far as Im aware, retirees are ineligible to apply for PR because they don't meet the income requirements so must always stay in the lowly Non Immigrant status for the remainder of their stay.

I am very close to having my PR in the bag. Just a few more hoops to jump through and I'm done.

It's really great to be alive at the moment 🙂

Not really, when I'm cremated at my village temple I will be a permanent resident by default.

It bothers me that my Thailand born kids don’t have citizenship.

Pray for more bedwetting wokeness.

Entitled to your view of course, but frankly that is unrealistic and shows a distinct lack of understanding of the land you are living in and its people, how it works, and what is realistic of the same.

But you can have your "in an ideal world" view. 😆

There are a lot of items on the check list to get a RP. They arent just given out. I seriously doubt bob would be able to check off most of the items on the check list. I would venture a guess bobby is on a tourist visa of some kind. Why do I feel like this? I have read his posts.

Doesn't bother me in the slightest! I chose to come here, I have to live by their rules! Simples!

I am not sure 'WE" are considered "lowly"; you maybe, but me , not remotely so by any Thai or Officialdom and as far as I know neither from other foreigners I have met in more than 22 years living in various parts of Thailand.

Of course he would, as it's him!

He even responded to a post of mine referring to him as Bob!

I overheard some one talking in the bar, sounds like the going rate is ฿200,000 in a brown envelope.

Being a retired expat Permanent Resident would make life easier, especially in dealing with the Thai bureaucracy.

It would be nice if retired expats, who have resided in Thailand for 5+ or 10 or so years, who have had no problems with the police/law, who have an adequate annual income, say Baht 1 million, from pensions, investments, etc. be granted PR.

Fully aware that PR, like citizenship, can be revoked by the authorities.

But if they brought it in it would be rescinded as that is what they do here...or amended endlessly..it's a farce...they cannot stop tinkering with the visa rules, it gets worse and worse..like a multi-headed monster trying to go in different directions.

If you start a silly OP what do you expect?

Yeah definitely sounds like BOB I’m remember when he said he was leaving then three or four days later he said he came back then how about his boat trip by a cargo ship they was checking into bye-bye BOB Bob Bob TIT

No, I don't mind.  Unlike the 90 percent here I love living here, no regrets at all.

I retired in Kanchanaburi in 2018 , and have never had a issue ever.

I would live no where else.  Again from reading the posts here, 90 percent here are nothing but old age drama queens. Their are Miserable people, know matter where they live.

How to Undo a Wedgie

1. Find a Private Spot (If Possible)

• If you’re in public, try to move to a restroom, an empty hallway, or a less crowded area.

• If you can’t leave, position yourself so that others won’t see what you’re doing.

2. Use a Quick and Subtle Adjustment

• If you’re standing, reach back with one hand and gently pull the fabric out.

• If you’re sitting, shift your weight from side to side while subtly pulling at the waistband.

3. Use the “Stretch and Squat” Method (For a more discreet fix)

• Stand with your feet shoulder-width apart.

• Bend your knees slightly and wiggle your hips.

• Pull your waistband outward a little to loosen the fabric.

4. If It’s Really Stuck (Deep Wedgie Fix)

• Insert a hand inside your pants and carefully pull the underwear loose.

• If needed, grab the waistband and tug gently to reposition everything.

5. Prevent Future Wedgies

• Wear well-fitting underwear (not too tight or too loose).

• Choose seamless or wedgie-proof styles.

• Adjust your underwear properly before putting on tight clothing.

Better life than you!

I could really care less if I have PR. As a Farang, you will be just as lowly as we are.

Frankly, the decision on what I’ll have for dinner is higher up my list than PR would ever be.

If this is your life, writing wasteful post, as a “soon to be PR” then you may want to find a hobby to better occupy your time.

And he may want to get some further education / facts about the requirements to gain Thai PR.

Quote from earlier post:

"as far as Im aware, retirees are ineligible to apply for PR because they don't meet the income requirements so must always stay in the lowly Non Immigrant status for the remainder of their stay."

There is some limited focus on size of income but the main item needed is proof of working in Thailand, with a Thai work permit, for the 3 continuous years* prior to lodging the application for PR (* but the number of years of continuous has changed in the past and could change again. I've had Thai PR for 28 years, when I applied foreigners needed to prove 7 years of continuous WPs.

And the applicant must also prove that he/she has submitted their Thai personal tax returns for those years and the assessed personal taxes due have all been paid.

And there's more.

"I am very close to having my PR in the bag. Just a few more hoops to jump through and I'm done." W

What does that mean?

This whole silly topic is just another desperate and pretentious bob smith windup. The chances of bob-the-knob ever having the means or fortitude to ever get a PR are as likely as bob giving up bonking ladyboys in Tuk-Tuks or GG writing a post that's ever worth reading. You get the point.
