  • Now, if they could take all Thai kids riding around like crazy with bikes that have excessive noise as well.  I'm not holding my breath.

  • What would be worthy news would be   Millions of thai people caught with no helmets, no licences, 3 or 4 on a bike, underage school and village kids as young as 8, or cages attached to the s

  • Not if you dislike idiots who really think that more noise makes the bike go faster

What has happened about the illegal modifications to buses with CNG? Has that been quitely forgotton about. A noisey exhaust never killed anybody.

This loud roar we hear as they pass by is the same reason it's a waste of time speaking to the riders they must be deaf as a post living with that noise all the time

We should’ve had Electric (quiet) motorbikes required on the islands and tourist areas years ago.
Go to China and this is all you see. Gas is passed tense!

Noise pollution sucks

The loud motorcycles and cars are a daily occurrence in Thailand. My simple solution, whether for foreigners or Thais, would be: destroy the vehicles! The owners can watch the vehicles being scrapped after paying a fine.🚳🚯

They're allowed a full on search just for being charged for illegal bike modifications!? That's a bit excessive!😦

It is not excessive, their bikes should have been confiscated as well. These -------noisy motorbikes are just a nuisance.

Police here only exist to collect money

Nothing to do with breaking the law then?

Three foreigners ! How many thai motorcyclists?  These headlines are infuriating if you are going to write a story then give the full details so it doesn't look like the police are racist and targeting foreigners

Not if they cant get money from it

So where do these Foreigners get the modded parts for their bikes unless it was from the shop that rented/sold them the bikes?

I doubt a foreigner, likely non-Thai speaker, would automatically know where to look without help from the bike shop people.

Except, of course, the UN doesn't make any laws and the concept of universal law is false.

pedantic... I believe most readers had no trouble understanding what I meant.

Loads of scooter shops that modify bikes, I've been to one near me  they do not speak English, I went for some coloured bolts, I'm not into loud piss every body off exhausts.

So you are a sheep.

Please explain what your comment has got to do with mine, and its relevance to this story

On sale today, special bike exhaust system mods that scream out "look at me, I'm a bIoody wɑnker with no regard for others".

It's for the noise they think it makes the bike powerful

Famous words from Thaksin."The UN  is not my father!"

And yet his government took a seat on the UN council for human right... OK, I know, technically, not his government....

Those pesky Russians again. At the very least they are likely to lose the bikes. But we all know this is a drop in the bucket, a game of whack a mole. Nothing will change. yawn

In the context of the article, the same Thai laws apply to Thais and foreigners equally, no "UN rules" are being broken.

Stop trying to create an argument... we all know the rules/laws are used indiscriminately, but they target foreigners more often because they have the money, and keeps thias happy. Bugger off.

how about the 100,000 ++++ thai bikes driven by thai unlicensed teenagers  with no mufflers etc..

detain foreigners a tea money is possible ... I guess !!!

motorcycle was found to have illegal accessories installed, along with a modified exhaust pipe that produced excessive engine noise"

WHAT A JOKE !!!!

Not in Thailand it isn't.

As everybody has commented, it's one rule for Thais and another for farangs. Illegal exhausts are one thing, defective/illegal brakes on Thai pick-ups, trucks, buses and cars are lethal weapons in the hands of drivers with no sense of road craft or consideration for others. Stop a few of them, impound their vehicles (with no back-handers to get off the offence) and I'll start to take the RTP seriously.

It's actually a joke, picking on European people because up to god knows how many percent of bikes, trucks and cars sceam past my house every day at high speed on a dangerous narrow road making unbearable noise because they have been fitted with cowboy straight through mufflers, I have seen 3 so far loose control and crash into car's which drive in the middle of the road, there's going to be a fatality soon, shame on the testing department, they can't even count lpg bottles or test brakes. I know what is wrong, the police are deaf, and colour blind when they see African girls working their streets they don't know if they are thai.

And the modifications of mufflers ect is big business, I wonder who owns the supply line?? Anyone know??

local made by any shop .....

went with one of the local guys to take my sister inlaws old Honda city for a new exhaust pipe ..( 400baht for a 2 meter section)   the shop owner custom bent a new pipe in 5 mins..    while we were there watching he had a young kid stuffing fiberglass insulation into some fabricated m/c tail pipes they made on site ..  no baffels   just a chunk of fiberglass fill ..  took the kid about a minute to stuff one

I'm not holding my breath.

Kids doesn't have money to pay the fines.

Some things never change.  Back in the 60's we used to modify our scooters in California to make them loader and the cops were constantly inspecting and writing fix it tickets.

Better get a faster and stealthy BMW.  Fast as heck and silent. If they don't hear you they are less likely to catch you for speeding.

I think the police should start confiscating motorbikes, This morning I just see a Farang come to stop at the lights and fall off the bike, nobody hit him,

Hamlics: The noise from the exhaust is inversely proportional to the size of their genitals! They need to seek psycho-therapy to address their deep-seated feelings of inadequacy!

The tolerance level is simply amazing, maybe Bhutan [or Outer Hebrides] would fit majority of posters much better than a country full of life.
