Foreigner Sparks Outrage for Doing Thai-Only Job in Phuket

Featured Replies

There is growing movement here in Thailand claiming asian workers from neighbouring countries such as Myanmar are stealing thai jobs  (not protected employment just the usual stuff like laborers, factory workers). Truth is all these employers would much rather employ thai workers and avoid dealing with immigration and various government agencies (protection racquets) but they know from experience that thai workers are unreliable in comparison

So Indians, Africans and Russians can openly work as prostitutes here in Thailand, but when it comes to massaging feet they are shocked 😳

  • "Thai wisdom"   Now there's a perfect example of an oxymoron  🤣

  • However, they don't mind sending Thais abroad to work in any cattegory

Especially South Korea where are almost 300,000 little Thai ghosts are working illegally

In many tourist area's pattaya patong and bkk as I wonder around I often think what this area needs is another massage shop sometimes I need to walk all the way past a 7/11 pharmacy and gold shop before I come across the next massage shop with 6 girls outside usually eating or on phone sometimes doing both at same time

Kinky dude probably paid the shop to play with girls feet. Thai gov should market that as an up and cumming tourist attraction. Misspelling by intent 😁

He is taking the piss “Hey lets just see the Thai reaction” Thats his wife.

Found him and deport him  easy

That depends on the laws / regulations of the receiving country, not on Thai regulations / attitudes.

What if he said he was doing Swedish massage not Thai 🤔😀

"Farang" is a Thai word that is used to refer to foreigners, particularly those of European descent.

It can also be used as a general term for any non-Thai person.

But it isn't, Thais have various specific names for different skin tones of foreigner...

Captured on a bustling street in Patong, the video portrays a foreign man engaging in duties that many argue should be strictly off-limits to expatriates under Thai law. This footage, widely circulated on social media, has drawn a torrent of criticism and calls for enforcement of existing regulations

Jail the employer... problem solved..

But how many jobs are done here by Cambodians and Burmese because those occupations are 'below' them?

It's only fair if this law applies both ways.

The term “Farang” in Thailand originally referred to any foreigner, not specifically those with white skin. Historically, it was used to describe Westerners, particularly Europeans, but over time, it has evolved to be a general term for any non-Thai person, regardless of their skin color.

While it’s true that “Farang” is commonly associated with white-skinned foreigners in popular usage, especially among locals, it doesn’t exclusively refer to that group. It can include people from other regions as well, such as those from Southeast Asia, and even East Asians. It’s important to note that the term is often neutral, though it can carry a variety of connotations depending on context, tone, and the speaker’s intent.

Can't argue with ChatGPT

Don’t upset or get on the wrong side of the netizens. Do so at your own peril.

Can you imagine how conservative the country is.. Several Thais are too lazy to work so they need Burmese and Cambodian people for jobs they can do but are low paid and no Thai want to do it.. I am a sportsmasseur too but as massage is only job allowed for Thai I can't do it here ... Outdated laws must be updated. It will put people to work instead of holding their hands up and opening coffeeshops and minishops that don't earn anything...Protectionism is always way to hold the economy back

Thais are too lazy to work. Thailand is too conservative.  Thai laws are there to hold their hands not put them to work. Thai laws need to be updated so I the sportsmasseur can work. My only comment is that if you feel your skills are being wasted staying here, then return to your home country. I'm sure your home country has regulations on who can legally work as a sportsmasseur.

I'd be hard pressed to imagine a higher profile example of a Thai job being 'stolen' than a white male farang working in a massage parlour

If that is indeed genuinely the case here.

I think, as someone has intimated......it is probably a wind up...!!,

It may be his shop that he openef woth Thai wife.

Got to be a joke on their part, surely... a farang working in public risking arrest for couple hundred baht an hour?

Next you'll see a farang with a pair of shorts with the Thai flag on. Guaranteed to get the natives' backs up. He'd be deported too, of course. Absolutely cannot have that. However, a Thai could wear a foreign flag on their shorts no prompem. 🙃

Twenty years in the big house!  How dare he do that!!!!

Who’s to say this is some guy rubbing his wife’s feet and the photo is taken out of context!

Aren't there schools here who teach Thai Massage to foreigners, even get extensions of stay for it?

In that case the farang would be the student and paying, not working and being paid.

Such restrictions aim to preserve what is often referred to as "Thai wisdom" and protect employment for local citizens.

That makes one Laugh  .

What Wisdom .      What about Work ,That's a Dirty Word for Many.
