  • RIP Mr American. Hope you were living your best life until the end.   As I've said before, as an experienced big bike rider (in the UK), there is NO place for big bikes in Thailand. The road

  • That´s usually what happens, when an idiot ride a 1000cc bike like on a race track in the middle of the city. Don´t you dare blame the road!

  • That was an extremely stupid reply! What does high speed tell you? Do smart individuals drive at high speed in the city? Do you have your answers now, or do we need more explanation?

This road has claimed many motorcyclists (I recall about 2 years ago a woman riding home after work drove into the back of a parked truck around the same time of day).

Then there was this one, where the driver - the son of a "Russian Mogul" - was showing off with his Soi 6 girl on the back, plowed into a tourist crossing the street. https://www.bangkokpost.com/thailand/general/1393214/three-killed-after-russians-big-bike-ploughs-into-korean

I used to live at the corner of Thappraya and Pratamnak in the Axis on the 3rd floor and my room faced the street. It was non stop high speed motorcycles with the exhaust pipes modified to sound like a small airplane all day and night. All of these major roads in town need speed humps (not speed bumps) put in, just like the road along Dongtan Beach. Most of the time traffic jams limit driving speeds to below the speed limit anyway., so these speed humps wouldn't be much of a bother. It would sure put a stop to all of these wanna be MotoGP riders on their clapped out two stroke scooters.

The motorcycle involved, a black Kawasaki Z1000 with the registration number from Bangkok, was found approximately 300 metres away from the crash site. A long trail of engine oil indicated the bike had skidded at high speed before coming to a stop.

According to eyewitness accounts provided by a foreign national, the victim was riding at an excessive speed when he failed to navigate a curve, causing the bike to mount the central island and collide with the trees.

RIP, but this has happened many times over the years. They put horrible pictures of illness and cancer on cigarette packets, and are talking about doing the same for booze. Maybe they should do something similar for big bikes, plaster them with photos of the horrendous physical results of a high-speed crash.

Not able to manage the "curve" on Thappraya rd.?

(a long mild bend)

What would happen if there is a real curve?

Quite a few examples of that off the flyover entrance to Hwy 7 off Suk North....before the roller barriers went in.

what was the excessive speed witnessed ?

Seems you have a problem understanding the content in the news. Let´s do like this instead. Rent a 1000cc, and test what you see as excessive speed. Just think about the curves.

And this IS what I would call a curve.

That road has taken many over the years

The road is straight and in good condition. The only things that are killed there are (drunk) nutters like this guy.
