Pattaya Ramps Up Efforts to Tackle Homelessness and Crime

Pattaya is intensifying efforts to address homelessness and boost public safety on Sukhumvit Road and the beach. In response to rising concerns about crime and disorder, city officials are launching measures to clean up the streets, support the homeless, and curb illegal activities.

Residents have expressed strong views on the matter, seeking a balance between aid for the homeless and stricter enforcement. "People who work hard want a clean and respectable city," said a local. "Those in need should receive proper housing and activities. If they refuse, they should remain in designated areas."

Safety concerns are high, with reports of some homeless individuals carrying knives or behaving suspiciously. "It's dangerous when people roam with weapons. We must keep the city safe," added a concerned resident.

Suggestions for designated areas where the homeless can grow food or raise animals are being considered. This could reduce reliance on public funds. Meanwhile, there are calls for harsher penalties for those involved in drugs or illegal activities.

Facing increasing pressure, police are urged to step up patrols to ensure public spaces remain safe for both locals and tourists, reported The Thaiger.

My wife is from Korat and she agrees with me all Isarn people should have an endorsement on their Thai ID's allowing them to live in Pattaya. If they fail to do that they get sent back to the area on there ID. Second offense a few months in the Pattaya college of knowledge.  Many Isarn people consider Pattaya the place to make money but how many look for work when they get there.

It would be impossible to ramp it down.......

Not really. All that is required is an order to roll in army trucks, round them up , and take them inland or upcountry for farming.

My comment really reflects on how not much is currently being done.. so to increase effort, should not be difficult.

Reminds me how I saw a homeless man  on the pavement in front of one of the hotels in town recently, and the hotel security, and I think a manager, were offering him money to go sit someplace else.

Alot of these upcountry males follow their girlfriends down to Pattaya whether she likes it or not,(not). This is a seaside tourist town and unless males have gainful employment they should be prohibited from entering. Just read the news and look around . There are way too many of them here. Nothing but a sh*tshow.

Does Thailand have a Chian-like law?

In China, their birth certificate makes all the differences in the level of movement freedom(I have learned by now).

Urban dwellers can move anywhere.

But those born in rural areas don't have that right.

If they move from the province of their birth, they lose their entitlement for public welfare(e.g. healthcare).

Little had I expected this kingdom also has that sort of birthplace based restriction tor the people in the countryside.
