Once a month outing eguals 16 years worth of 1000 baht hotel rooms.   Stay 2 nights, and its 8 years worth, or weekly and 4 yrs worth.   Do you really want to go to the same place every week for 4 years, or every month for 8 yrs.

The OP said three hours drive NE of Bangkok - there's a lot less planes overhead once one gets out of Bangkok, and they're usually above 25,000 feet! 🙂

This is just a snapshot at one moment in time.

If you watch the video I uploaded, then, during one point in the video you can hear a plane overflying.

Almost impossible to find a place in Thailand without planes buzzing us.

This is just part of the experience of living in this modern age.

 

We will not have another few quiet years until we have our next pandemic.

I am looking forward to it, actually.

Finding someone to do repairs/maintenance on a bamboo hut might be a pita. If the roof is sheet metal will probably be quite loud in a rain storm. Security problems already mentioned. On positive side, no one will be jealous, but I wouldn't expect too many kudos for your humble love shack either. Will probably be viewed as an eccentric choice for housing. Why not rent a hotel room if all it is a weekend pied-a-terre? That type of construction nowadays is more associated with a field "house" used as a day/overnight shelter with no running water or electricity, and is more often constructed with wood boards than bamboo.

As the link mentions, bamboo needs to be treated to resist insects, including termites.

If you want something serious, why not build the basic structure and floor of wood, then use bamboo for the walls. If you want to be comfortable and neighbors are not close, you could design an alternative to exterior walls, such as vertical bamboo slats or louvers. Bamboo must be properly prepared and treated, not green.
