A friend of mine is in Thailand with annual extension based on a non O retirement visa.
Now his wife has arrived from Europe with a non O retirement visa too (obtained abroad) , and they went to Phuket Immigration to ask a "dependent" extension for the wife.
At Immigration they have been told that to get the "dependent" extension  she should have entered the country with a non O "dependent" visa and not with a non O "retirement"
Does what they told her make any sense?

Yes

Yes it does.  There is a non O for visiting non-Thai family, that's what she needed.

In the past, me and my wife came here with two non O retirement and at the first extension we got one extension as "retirement" and the second one as "dependent"

I was about to type....that the friend could ask immigration if it's possible to do first extension based on retirement and change to dependant in second year.

Could be a good idea, but I think he would not like to put other 800k in the bank....

 

How long has this non o dependent that can be requested abroad existed? I didn't know about it, and in 2021 I did without it

Assume they are not from country that provides income letter.

Bit off your question however I'm guessing that they will transfer monthly amount to live off.

The wife could eventually be on retirement extensions using income method. 

That's 65k per month of transfers. 

Of course she is 50+
