If they build in Chonburi, perhaps the hordes of Chinese in Pattaya will go there instead?

Maybe build near to Utapao and let flights from China use it?

I think they mean Pattaya, Chonburi, buddy.

In Pattaya long ago the places most touted to open a casino were Ambassador Hotel as an existing facility (wasn't it the largest hotel in Asia at one time?

and Phoenix Golf Course where the story was Thaksin was going to build one there after he'd bought it in his wife's name. Dunno if she still owns it?

The Avenue would be a good location also. Never heard it proposed, just my idea.

Those locations are already full of tourists. If the intention is to increase tourism broadly across the country how about other locations. On a related matter, say hello to more misery among Thai families with short-fused males whom after losing all their money will become more violent at home.

there was already talks about having at least a couple of millions on your bank account, having no debt and no crime history to even allowed to go inside the building.

“Such concerns underscore the need for clear, robust regulations to safeguard the integrity of Thailand’s financial landscape.”

Absolutely. Thailand is great at writing screeds on clear and robust regulations. Don’t often see them in action though. But, never mind. Let’s do it anyway.

I’m sure there will be lots of rules on that front. Just like you have to wear a helmet and have a licence to ride a motorbike. And be 16 years old.

it’s never about the rules. It’s about the enforcement

Utapao is officially Rayong despite it being promoted as Pattaya airport.  Although Utapao would make sense with the expansion of the airport and the proposed Eastern Aviation City.

The casino complexes are slated to have hotels, a large shopping mall, an amusement park, concert hall, and so on, as well as the casinos.  How would all that fit into the Avenue?   It seems like they are envisioning something like Genting Highlands in Malaysia, which my spouse and I visited recently and which has all of what I listed.  There were lots of people there--the whole complex was packed--and many were not even gambling but were out and about doing other things.

If they want a central location, the large tracts of land in the Hard Rock hotel area--some vacant and some with a closed hotel and other closed retail--might work, but some of that is already slated for Aquatique.  Some proposed elements of Aquatique certainly could be incorporated into a casino complex, however.

I think a huge casino/entertainment complex would make the already horrible traffic in that area impossible so I hope another site is selected.  Properly done, it can be a destination attraction on its own, such as Genting Highlands and the granddaddy, Las Vegas, built in the original 'middle of nowhere'.

I doubt very muuch if they will build  close to Utapoa. I would think it has got to be accessible to where people socialise or very close by.

Pattaya is in Chonburi province.  I think they are simply trying to avoid using the word 'Pattaya'.

Update: Others beat me to it!

It's heartening to see some pushback Thanakorn Khomkrit no doubt giving voice to a majority (of silent voices) though we all know the b*****ds in charge will do it anyway.

There was a recent posting in an FB group of the abandoned casino complex in Pakse, Laos, where the archipelago rapids are a well-known natural beauty spot. It's been removed and there's very little up-to-date info online, after a quick search. The hated project has been left with empty shells of buildings looking a disgrace. The poster reported a trickle of water where the rapids used to flow.

In the UK the Hippodrome, privately owned by millionaire Simon Thomas, makes hundreds of thousands in profits per week - AFTER paying half of that into the UK treasury in tax. Thailand will be rubbing its hands together over that prospect. Mr Thomas and his classic car collection will have friends high-up in Westminster of course.

Oh joy exactly where in Chiang Mai could a casino/hotel complex be built?  Maybe near the airport? Guests can get off the plane and go straight to the tables.  I can see traffic from mainland China pickup when and if this happens.  Casino's can bring economic gains but a lot of bad things come with that.  Las Vegas is a facade in many ways.  Once you get off the stip the realities of life hit you in the face.  Lot of people who have lost a lot end up being homeless.  At least in the US the Native American tribes build their casno/hotel complexes on their lands which is a good distance from major cities.

Lucky this isn't a Buddhist country, oh wait   .....

Drive down Thapae Road and witness results of the 2020 virus scare fiasco which ended up closing down all of the "non-essential business" that have never recovered.  Shuttered storefronts galore.  "Rose of the North."  Right!

Chiang Mai has so many old row shops on now busy roads that have only street parking and make them difficult to access. I stopped going into the actual city a long time ago unless for some special reason. Not surprised these things close and don't come back.

Oh but look they have gay pride flags now! yay finally some progress.

Why don't they just buy up about 10 very large barges and float them offshore, as gambling sites.

I do not gamble, and so I will not participate even if one is opened in CM.

By the way:  Casinos did wonders for Macao (Macau)....NOT....

It's the kind of Buddhist where you gamble, drink, smoke weed and pay for sex. Not sure what kind of Buddhism you were thinking of.

Take a look at Sihanoukville Cambodia to see how things turn out; pretty much ruined because of the casinos. Locals have not gained anything from the casinos because of the Chinese zero dollar tourists that go there. Pretty sure the investors--Chinese(?), will be the only ones that gain anything from building casinos.

From other reports , only richer Thais will be allowed in.  I wonder how they will check that ?  And for foreigners, I doubt the crowd from soi 6 and cheap Chinese will be welcome.  I don’t know how Asian  casinos work the doors, but in France there is a dress code and many are turned away.

Or are they going to open the cheap flashy casinos you see on TV?

The soi 6 and Bangla road girls will need to change their choice of clothes. Anyhow I doubt that it will be any time soon, buying land , building etc should take a good few years.

This would be such a disaster. They're still trying to sell this "rose of north" and "northern cultural capital" crap about Chiang Mai which has already lost most of that but if they added a casino it would be game over.

I still like Nimman and the temples, of course.
