A patient transport ambulance crashed into a hospital building in Nakhon Pathom, injuring 12 people, after the driver reportedly lost control due to a shoe obstructing the brake pedal.

The incident occurred around midday on 13 March at the orthopaedic surgery department of the hospital. Emergency responders and medical staff immediately assisted the injured, who were swiftly taken for treatment.

Police investigators, led by Lieutenant Colonel Phattharapha Wanwong of Nakhon Pathom Police Station, arrived at the scene to assess the damage and question the driver, identified as Akkhararak. He explained that his shoe became lodged against the brake pedal, preventing him from stopping the vehicle, which he then veered into the hospital building.

Authorities took the driver in for further questioning and conducted an alcohol test as part of the investigation, which was negative.

Forensic officers have been deployed to the hospital to gather evidence, including CCTV footage, to confirm the cause of the crash and determine whether any further action will be taken.

Eyewitnesses described the terrifying moment, stating that the area was crowded with people waiting or moving around. “I saw the van arrive to drop off a patient, and then suddenly, it started moving forward and crash through the glass front, hitting people inside the building. No one had time to react before screams filled the air,” one witness recounted.

Authorities are continuing their inquiries to ensure such an incident does not happen again.
