Boycott the USA. There seems to be no other way.

  • I hear from a friend that Canada is contemplating cancelling their order of F-35s also. Great!

Yes, L+M specifically, but watch this space. Germany are already talking to get out of the deal.  All Euro nations will be better off with JAS-39. The most advanced fighter jet currently availabl

I'm sure we'll make up for it, we're behind on F-35 orders anyway. It's not like the world needs Portugal to fight any battles.

It's not about being behind or Portugal fighting battles. This is a real loss to the USA "Portugal aimed to invest €5.5 billion over the next 20 years to transition to this new generation of aircraft."

I know you can only count till 5,not your fault, everyone has a limit.
Canada is purchasing 88 F-35 aircraft from the U.S. at a cost of $19 billion. DND officials also confirmed the full life-cycle cost for the F-35 project would eventually tally $70 billion.3 days ago

Got it. You will make up a story about the 50 too? Which friend will tell you about that one?

Portugal wont be the only country deciding not to buy or canceling orders.

The UK for instance has ordered 138 they have received 48 so far.

They have offered to send Typhoon fighters to Ukraine to police Ukrainian sky's as part of a peace deal they can't sent send F35's as they would have to get permission from Trump in the past that wouldn't have been a problem as we were all on the same side.

Will they continue to buy the remaining F35's or look to Europe for an alternative I don't know but it is a possibility. It's no good having fighters if you are limited as to where and how you want to use them. Their biggest problem would be the aircraft carriers were built for VTOL aircraft so possibly they could just get the number required for the carriers and cancel the rest who knows.

At the moment Europe is developing two separate programs for 6th-generation fighter jets: the Global Combat Air Programme (GCAP) by the UK, Italy, and Japan, and the Future Combat Air System (FCAS) by France, Germany, and Spain. It wouldn't surprise me if those programs weren't accelerated as a matter of urgency.

Then there the other countries that have F35's on order in Europe alone there are Italy, Netherlands, Norway, Denmark, Belgum, Finland, Greece, Poland, Romania, Switzerland, Turkey then there's Canada,  Australia, Singapore, Japan, South Korea, Israel.

One concern would be the potential for America to turn them off. Under Trump America if fast becoming an unreliable partner.

That is just the F35 how about all the rest of American military equipment that will be losing sales Europe is already ramping up its defence industries.

There is no doubt about it under Trump the American Defence industries will be hit hard from overseas sales and Trump has stated "the US could massively cut defense spending" so where will that leave them.

Who can brick them anytime he likes.

F35 is a system.

Naw we got Israel, their Air Force is enough to handle Putin and they do what they are told.

They be much better off with the SU-57.

Only cost $35 million, come with TWO engines, can use afterburners, and can fly in the rain.

Only option they lack is the F-35's infamous submarine capability.

So Trump won't give the go ahead to keep the war going.... awe, boohoo..., since when is continuing a war a good thing.... bizarre its mental how everyone is pro war all of a sudden, now that trump wants to end one.

The sheep well n truely brainwashed.

USA & Israel, cancer of the world, hopefully Trump changes that for the USA war wise,  but Israel won't change.

Any canceled orders will carry significant penalties.

Lean and mean, a force for world peace, beat swords into plowshares and all that. Adapt.

None of them but Japan have the money, and Japan does what we say.

I feel bad for you guys, seeking ANYTHING to use as criticism for Trump. You need lives.

Nothing to do with keeeping the war going it's about buying defence equipment from countries you can rely on.

Unfortunately we got 36 of those potential bricks, and also the smartest engineers on the planet. But this will be more difficult than adapting/copying the Mirage, which was just a couple of steps above the Spitfire. F35 is science fiction of the seventies. Gen 6 will be Star Wars.

defence aka war!!

It is theft of public money through weapons manufacturers, the people of the countries have no say in the matter
