March 16, 2025Mar 16 Do both husband and wife have to have a separate retirement extension and each have 800000bhat in the bank
March 16, 2025Mar 16 That's one option. If wife can obtain a Non O (dependant) prior to entering Thailand she could piggyback on husbands extensions from his Non O based on retirement as his dependant.

Where is husband currently. Fall back option is for him to use agent. Where in Thailand will they be based.

You cannot just magically switch from agent extensions to DIY. You need to be very clear. BTW: It is not "their extension" It is two completely separate Non O + extension. What did it cost to be clear 60k ? Did you use a Hua Hin agent

Immigration check financial requirements retrospectively. They cannot show compliance for previous 12 months. Suggest they continue with agent. Guessing first gig was Non O + extension. Next time it would be extensions only. Cheaper.
March 16, 2025Mar 16 Author I think they have to accept using an agent for this extension but was hoping to get the financial side sorted so they can do there own extension in 2026 If they now put 65000naht in the bank could they piggy back next year

Also UK embassy does not provide income letter. They would both need to show 12 months of 65k per month. They need to start over. What is total monthly budget in Thailand? Don't wish to sound rude however poor planning.
March 16, 2025Mar 16 Author Thank you for your help I think that they will have to carry on using an agent
March 20, 2025Mar 20 1 has to get the extension of stay. Then you need proof that you are legally married translated and certified by the Thai foreign ministry. Then the partner can get an extension of stay without any financial requirements. 2.19 In the case of being a family member of a Thai resident (applicable only to parents, spouse, children, adopted children, or spouse’s children): Each permission shall be granted for no more than one year. (1) The alien must have been granted a nonimmigrant visa (NONIM). (2) The alien must have proof of relationship. (3) In the case of spouse, the relationship must be de jure and de facto: or (4) In the case of children, adopted children, or spouse’s children, said children, adopted children, or spouse's children must not be married, must live with the alien as part of the family, and must not be over 20 years of age except in case of the person hereof is of illness or disability and cannot live without support of father or mother: or (5) In the case of parents, the father or mother must be 50 years of age or over.

Assuming that the couple referred to in the OP got married in the UK, they would need to follow a cumbersome legalisation process in order to be able to use their marriage certificate in Thailand for immigration and other official purposes: https://www.gov.uk/guidance/documents-for-british-people-abroad#legalising-uk-documents

While they are both obtaining separate 1-year retirement extensions, this would not, of course, have been a situation with which they had previously been faced. In this instance they have IMHO the UK government - rather than its Thai counterpart - to thank pure and simple for acting as the major roadblock to what they might want to achieve on the immigration front locally. In the case of most other nationalities, it would, I think, be simply a case of rocking up to your home country embassy in Bangkok with a copy of your marriage certificate which would then have a suitably-worded stamp plonked on it for immigration purposes!
