You have obviously never been to Pattaya Beach Road at 4 am.

No, I find it best to find an off the road beer bar to settle down in until sunrise.

So, they did not even know why they were beating two bales of schittt out of the guy. Pack mentality at its worst.

  • You mean like, he started beating up 10 guys, and they only acted in self-defense? Regardless of what is left out of the story, there is NEVER an excuse for 10 cowards beating up 1 guy.

If there is any doubt about the locals' unguarded feelings toward foreigners.  Take a good look at some of the water throwing hate-fest Songkran in Pattaya.

I think all can agree on the beating being wrong.

The question is was it avoidable?

what garbage are you blabbering now .....     safest on earth = that is funny  !

you call 10 vs 1 safe  ?

The man said "My personal experience with Thailand - the safest country on Earth. "

So obviously he wasn't talking about this unfortunate incident.

and that's great,  he's found it so safe.  Well,  I can tell you if you live upcountry in a village surrounded by locals and you have any disagreement or argument or problem with someone,  you won't find it very safe then I can tell you.

Why don't a lot of you guys just accept that there are young Thai thugs that just enjoy and ' get off ' on dishing out unwanted and gratuitous violence to foreigners for no reason whatsoever.

Maybe because as far as I can remember, whenever there is a case of this kind of terrible violence the farang involved brought it on themselves to some extent.

Not saying it was justified, only that it was avoidable, and a result of poor judgement by the farang.

Some people can find a beating wherever they go.

All decent people, Thai and farang, are asleep by 4 AM.

I am not a decent person and not sure I know any.

However, I too am usually asleep by 4 AM, not sure what it has to do with this story.

I can get my indecency out of the way before 4AM.

Are you one of those who renounces Satan and all his works?

All his works?

That has always seemed so extreme to me.

You seem to be saying that only decent people deserve safety, again, seems extreme.

Don't know where I implied 10 folks taking part was justified, but spin your reply any way you wish.  Quite normal replies here, and nothing to do with my post.

Do suspect it wasn't just a random beating of a stranger minding his own business.

"Do suspect it wasn't just a random beating of a stranger minding his own business. "

Agree absolutely.

Absolutely, it never is (OK never say never).

Did the report say the German didn't know what started it off?

"he was unsure of the attack's details" or didn't want to say.

I am curious to know what the initiating incident was.

BS. I felt more unsafe in London that I ever did in Thailand, ANYWHERE.

No country is "safe" but Thailand is high on the safe country list.

In my real world experience, no foreigner that is polite and doesn't treat the Thais badly is at risk.

I've seen only 1 instance of many Thais beating up a farang, but the one I saw in a gogo was well deserved by a thug farang that was abusing the girls.

Safe countries by and large, I would be saying Monaco, Poland, Croatia, Norway, Iceland, Luxembourg, Portugal, Singapore, Hong Kong, Austria, New Zealand.

So your post is BS. Thailand ranks 76th out of 163 countries.

Even now, there are Embassy travel warnings, especially for the South of Thailand.

In 30 years, I've seen plenty of unprovoked attacks by Thais on foreigners and Thais on Thais.

Yes, there are plenty of stupid foreigners, and because of what Thailand offers, Sex, drugs and Rock and Roll, it goes with the territory as a holiday destination for these things and attracts this kind of people.

Regards London, that is the only point you have expressed that I agree with and can be backed up as factual.

Your argument is sunk to the bottom of the Ocean, those guys intervened just purely and simply to vent anger because the guy was a foreigner.

They admitted as much, they admitted they didn't know what the argument was even about.

Too many on here need calling out, they try to ' go local ' and pretend they are ' almost Thai ' all is rosy in the garden, and Thais are ' my friends ' etc.

Well, you come upcountry and get into a dispute with anybody, no matter how much ' right ' is on your side, they are not interested.

Get into a land dispute or lend them money, and you'll soon see how friendly they are.

Not sure why Thais always seem to gang up

Because they are cowards and cannot fight one on one.

You know Thailand and you know how Thais play the game.  I absolutely agree with everything you said.

Folks here live in their nice condo in tourist-ville and get their daily fake thai smile at the shop and it warms their insides.

Take the tinted glasses off and experience the real thais upcountry in remote villages and you'll soon see how friendly they really are.

Probably he mouthed off to the guys, did a runner on his restaurant tab or insulted one of their broads.

I have never heard of a gang of Thai men attacking a farang tourist for no good reason.

Neither have I, but there is no excuse for ten Thai's against one farang. They are cowards.

Exactly, you "felt" more unsafe because you heard of the violence that happened there, although you also hear it here, and it's 5 or more against 1 here a lot more often, so you should "feel" more unsafe here because of that alone. Feelings mean very little. Everyone has them every day and most mean nothing, as like all feelings, they usually pass soon and are replaced by reality.

There are countless people who spend most of their time indoors and the only knowledge they have is from the media. Others, like myself, grew up on the streets and lived it daily, in big cities and the country, where we saw what went on a lot more than those who rarely went outside. I saw violence, but not very much involving more than 2 or three against one. That was usually a friend sticking up for another when someone went after them. As many have said, here it might start one against one, but the pack mentality, which is a cowardly approach, has 3,4,5 or more ganging up against the one, kicking them because they don't know how to hit with their hands, or are afraid they might break their hands on someone's face, instead of letting the 2 duke it out to see who wins.

Although there are many more countries that are more unsafe than Thailand, like African, Central America and the Middle east, Thailand isn't a very safe for tourists to visit, as we've seen here more on a daily basis for the last decade or more................https://www.nationthailand.com/in-focus/30317678

Either you know nothing about NZ or are being silly. NZ is very violent and I do not feel safe anywhere. Country is over run by gangs.

What are you smoking? I saw the violence in London for myself.

How many acts of violence did you actually see? One, two or many? Exaggerations don't count. I lived near NYC for 30 years, and worked there, visited monthly, and spent a lot of time walking around, and never saw any violence happening. Of course it does, daily, but very few actually see violence a lot unless they live in war zones.

Yes, let's have the Queensbury rules imposed on street fighting. Some of us live in the real world where street fights are anything goes. You seem to have a very unrealistic opinion of real life. For a start, Thailand is in SEA where feet are the preferred method of fighting. Did you never watch a Bruce Lee movie?

As I said, behave and the chances of being attacked are minimal. I was wandering around in Pattaya all hours of the night and never had a problem, but I wasn't an abusive drunk like so many farangs are.

I doubt they care about what farangs think.

Seems to be a lot that think Thailand is just Britain with brown people.

I don't have opinions on real life. I lived in the streets most of my life, in and near New York, San Antonio, Houston, Austin, Dallas and many others. A street fight between two people are anything goes, but 5 to 10 against one isn't a street fight but a bunch of cowards ganging up on the one because they're too afraid to tackle it individually. People use their feet to kick because they don't want to get their hands broken, or don't know how to hit with a hand, period. People who actually know how to use their feet, like I do, use them if needed in a one on one fight where both people are standing facing one another. Quite different than kicking someone when they're on the ground. Thinking all Asians know how to fight using their feet and hands, Muay Thai, Karate, Tae Kwando or any other style is ridiculous. This kind of news only comes out because as foreigners we are the very small minority. 99% of violence here is locals against locals, and the same style, many against 1.

As no one sees but a tiny fraction of what goes on daily anywhere, and only in the tiny fraction of the area in which they live ,the only way to know what truly happens is data, which is easily researched. A lot more goes on here than most realize, as the only way we know of current violence is TV news reports, word of mouth and data which is recorded.............https://ocindex.net/country/thailand

They need the taxi driver. The kick to the head confirms what low lives we are sometimes dealing with. That is jail time.

I certainly don't need your advice about either living or visiting here.

What qualifies you to advise me?

I've been here 30 years and visited nearly every province in the country, I also know the underbelly of Thailand and speak the language.

And it most certainly is NOT the safest country on earth, silly statement.

TAKE OFF YOUR ROSE COLOURED GLASSES, WAKE UP AND SMELL THE COFFEE.

Plenty of murders take place over trivial matters, murders and rape of tourists, especially on some of the islands, is commonplace.

Some of the most dangerous roads in the world.

Safest country on earth-you are ridiculous.

How have you managed to survive here for 30 years? According to your own posts, you should have been murdered by now—or at the very least, severely assaulted. What level of hypocrisy does it take to hate a place while choosing to live in it for three decades?
