and that's great,  he's found it so safe.  Well,  I can tell you if you live upcountry in a village surrounded by locals and you have any disagreement or argument or problem with someone,  you won't find it very safe then I can tell you.

Maybe because as far as I can remember, whenever there is a case of this kind of terrible violence the farang involved brought it on themselves to some extent.

Folks here live in their nice condo in tourist-ville and get their daily fake thai smile at the shop and it warms their insides. 

Take the tinted glasses off and experience the real thais upcountry in remote villages and you'll soon see how friendly they really are.

Exactly, you "felt" more unsafe because you heard of the violence that happened there, although you also hear it here, and it's 5 or more against 1 here a lot more often, so you should "feel" more unsafe here because of that alone. Feelings mean very little. Everyone has them every day and most mean nothing, as like all feelings, they usually pass soon and are replaced by reality. 

 

There are countless people who spend most of their time indoors and the only knowledge they have is from the media. Others, like myself, grew up on the streets and lived it daily, in big cities and the country, where we saw what went on a lot more than those who rarely went outside. I saw violence, but not very much involving more than 2 or three against one. That was usually a friend sticking up for another when someone went after them. As many have said, here it might start one against one, but the pack mentality, which is a cowardly approach, has 3,4,5 or more ganging up against the one, kicking them because they don't know how to hit with their hands, or are afraid they might break their hands on someone's face, instead of letting the 2 duke it out to see who wins.

How many acts of violence did you actually see? One, two or many? Exaggerations don't count. I lived near NYC for 30 years, and worked there, visited monthly, and spent a lot of time walking around, and never saw any violence happening. Of course it does, daily, but very few actually see violence a lot unless they live in war zones.

Yes, let's have the Queensbury rules imposed on street fighting. Some of us live in the real world where street fights are anything goes. You seem to have a very unrealistic opinion of real life. For a start, Thailand is in SEA where feet are the preferred method of fighting. Did you never watch a Bruce Lee movie?

 

 

As I said, behave and the chances of being attacked are minimal. I was wandering around in Pattaya all hours of the night and never had a problem, but I wasn't an abusive drunk like so many farangs are.

I don't have opinions on real life. I lived in the streets most of my life, in and near New York, San Antonio, Houston, Austin, Dallas and many others. A street fight between two people are anything goes, but 5 to 10 against one isn't a street fight but a bunch of cowards ganging up on the one because they're too afraid to tackle it individually. People use their feet to kick because they don't want to get their hands broken, or don't know how to hit with a hand, period. People who actually know how to use their feet, like I do, use them if needed in a one on one fight where both people are standing facing one another. Quite different than kicking someone when they're on the ground. Thinking all Asians know how to fight using their feet and hands, Muay Thai, Karate, Tae Kwando or any other style is ridiculous. This kind of news only comes out because as foreigners we are the very small minority. 99% of violence here is locals against locals, and the same style, many against 1.

As no one sees but a tiny fraction of what goes on daily anywhere, and only in the tiny fraction of the area in which they live ,the only way to know what truly happens is data, which is easily researched.
