Texas Governor Challenges Proposed EPIC Muslim City Development

In early 2024, the East Plano Islamic Center (EPIC) unveiled plans for "EPIC City," a 402-acre community near Josephine, Texas, envisioned to include over 1,000 homes, educational institutions, a mosque, parks, and commercial facilities. Promoted as the "epicenter of Islam in America," the development aims to create a harmonious and inclusive environment for residents of all backgrounds.

EPIC City development in Collin County provokes controversy and investigation - CBS Texas

However, the project has encountered significant opposition from Texas Governor Greg Abbott and Attorney General Ken Paxton. Governor Abbott has expressed concerns that the development could function as a "Sharia city," asserting that "Sharia law is not allowed in Texas. Nor are Sharia cities. Nor are 'no go zones' which this project seems to imply. Bottom line—the project as proposed in the video is not allowed in Texas."

Attorney General Paxton has initiated an investigation into Community Capital Partners, the entity managing the EPIC City project, to determine potential violations of state consumer protection laws. Paxton alleges that EPIC would be the "only beneficiary of profits" from the development, stating, "Under my watch, there will be zero tolerance for any person or entity that breaks Texas law."

Further complicating matters, Governor Abbott issued a cease-and-desist order demanding that EPIC halt all funeral service operations, citing the operation of a funeral home without a license as a violation of state law. Abbott emphasized, "Here in Texas, we uphold the rule of law."

In response to these actions, EPIC representatives have defended their vision, emphasizing their commitment to creating a diverse and inclusive community that adheres to all local, state, and federal laws. They have extended an invitation to Governor Abbott to visit the site and learn more about the project firsthand.

The controversy has ignited a broader debate on religious freedom, community development, and the application of state laws in Texas. As the situation unfolds, the Collin County Commission is expected to vote on EPIC City's permit ... , a decision that will significantly impact the project's future.

This case highlights the complex interplay between religious community initiatives and state regulations, underscoring the challenges faced when balancing cultural integration with legal compliance.

This is wrong in so many ways. Other cultures should assimilate into the new country where they reside or <deleted> off back to the country of origin.

Dr Qadhi was educated in a Saudi university widely considered to advocate the Whabbi strain of Islam. This should give pause for careful thought. Whether  not the Dr. Advocating the project subscribes to the Whabbi tenenants of Islam which are widely considered to be somewhat extreme is not known and there is no reason to believe that he does but the Governor of Texas would do well to give very careful thought to this project which might well attract religious extremists. Whabbism is an ultra conservative form of Islam. Adherents to its beliefs are encouraged to flock to Jihadist movements

Is Islam increasing in the world?

The Muslim population is predicted to grow more than twice as fast as the overall population by 2060. It is also predicted that Islam will take over as the largest religion in the world surpassing Christianity after 2050. There are various reasons why Islam is the fastest growing religion.Feb 13, 2567 BE

Not my circus so ... Just will be interesting watching Abbott defend non-discrimination. Or opposing Shaia Law as  the USA has so many "but what about ..." exceptions when it comes to views, actions regarding religions ... Yo! I'm just saying, more entertainment in the greater current circus environment.

A terrible idea... and in Texas of all places. This kind of thing is what sows division, segregates people, and facilitates suspicion and hatred. Why don't they become American if they want to live there? If the boot was on the other foot and you tried this in the Middle East... well, good luck, wouldn't be allowed, so why should it be allowed in the US?

If it happens, then it will just become an Islamic enclave in Texas not respecting US law and just dishing out warped justice to the people within, plus will become a safe base for terrorists. If the authorities approve this, then they all need arresting and sending to a mental asylum.

Because being a Muslim is un-American? Good thing for the opponents of this plan that there is no such thing as freedom of religion otherwise...

So he's the head of EPIC. I guess you took some of that from his Wiki page, its certainly interesting reading. Previously a holocaust denier that changed his mind and still a proponent of stoning women and homosexuals to death, oh but he draws the line at doing that in the West. How moral of him.

The Times newspaper reported that British Charity Commission regulators contacted three Islamic charities about Qadhi's 2015 tour, where he allegedly made controversial comments and told students that "killing homosexuals and stoning adulterers was part of their religion." He also clarified to them that these punishments were only applicable in an Islamic society and were not to be applied in the West.[33][34]

Well, thanks for sharing with us your apparent obsession with Ilhan Omar. That's one muslim in America noted. About 4.5 million more to go.

The main reason islam is the fastest growing religion is that most of them don't work and are on benefits so have plenty of time to breed.
