In fact, what Trump and others didn't like about the VOA was that it offered reports that weren't propaganda. Propaganda was what Trump wanted. And it was  a great advertisement for the USA that a government funded media source could publish reports that contained criticisms of the government and news that contradicted its claims.

Once again. VOA showed it was possible even for a government funded agency to criticize the government. That's a pretty good advertisement for the first Amendment and the government. But as we've seen lately, the current government views the first amendment as unamerican
