Does this online community make you feel very happy and fulfilled?

A farang started talking to me at the supermarket. I wasn't going to be rude and not talk to him.

So we chatted for 15 minutes. He was telling me his whole life story, which isn't necessarily a bad thing. Some people have had interesting experiences. But then he wanted me to go out for drinks with a bunch of his buddies, which is when I bowed out.

I don't like to mingle with half the expat population close to where I'm living. People start to know too much about you, interfere in your life, jealousy, backstabbing, wasting time and money drinking in bars. and then it's hard to extricate yourself. When you make a bunch of "friends" in the real world, you have to constantly watch your back because you can't really trust people. Online, it's anonymous and it suits me better.

Online communication doesn't have all these problems, and I am constantly on blogs, so I keep an extra tab open on AN. That's one reason I'm on here so much.

Harrisfan doesn't bother me that much. Keep in mind he was orphaned, so maybe have some sympathy for him.

But happy and fulfilled are strong words.

Anyway, I’m just throwing this out there -- And I'm throwing it back.

  • I enjoy it because I like helping people with my vast knowledge about Thai stuff.

I’m actually finding some positives in that though. The fact that the most toxic posters on the site don't have any limitations on their posting abilities has led me to spend less time on the site reading, simply because I don’t want to be in their presence. So in a way, it’s helping me pull away at times. Honestly, I worry that if there were a lot more quality posters on the site to begin with, it would be even harder to stop reading as much. Do you agree?

If it does, you have a problem.  A better question would be "Does it make you feel entertained/informed and your opinions occasionally validated?"  That's all you really want from an online, comment-based community.

I'm amazed that none of the site's biggest serial pests have chimed in yet. I guess they all want to stay completely clear of this one. 😂

Not in the same way as a threesome ....😝 I am only here as I have nothing

better to do..at the moment

It often puts me in a gloomy mood so I rarely visit nowadays. Some posters are rude and unpleasant and seem quite pleased with themselves.

Isn't everyone happy, happier when they are in control ?

I quite enjoy being different, which I definitely am, but you wouldn't know that, since you don't know me ... go figure.

harrisfan conspicuously took his first day off the forum since covid?

I think the main issue for me is that most of what I see and read on the site just doesn’t really resonate with me. There are very few people whose opinions I feel I can relate to. That said, I do enjoy reading posts from a handful of members, particularly those who take a more thoughtful, intellectual, and philosophical approach rather than filling their posts with repetitive bias and anger.

Well, JK .   ...... sure enough,  on one of my rare days that I posted some comments and made a few jokes...  One of the daily posters got upset and couldn't hold back any longer .   These forums are full of people with many issues ( i have a few myself  haha) .   And so ....... that is why I personally do not feel better after encountering some of those who are losers but want to prove themselves otherwise by getting into conflicts on the internet.

Time for my AN anonymous yoga exercises now ....... followed by some drinks with my extremely successful ex M16 buddies .    And of course, some homemade kefir .

Cheers

I would not say fulfilled --but it used to interesting place at times until the Dems & Repubs went to war ---now there is so little to look at.  ....:omfg:

There is a new pest in the soapbox. Made over 70 posts in his first 24 hours. Could be another ban and resurrection? More likely a new pest though cause this new one is more articulate.

The suggestion about having a daily cap on posts is excellent. Not only does the posting of dozens and dozens - if not hundreds - of posts by a single poster in a single day degrade the reading experience, but you will never convince me that that level of posting activity is healthy for the individual doing the posting either.

ASEANNOW would also be well-advised to immediately discontinue the "popular contributors" sidebar. At least some of the posters who regularly appear in this sidebar appear to be in an inane competition with one another over who will top the leaderboard, resulting in a major degradation of content quality. Far from being among the most "popular" contributors, they are actually among the least popular posters on the forum, and only appear in this sidebar because of the sheer volume of posts they are making.

Plus, is there are check for proof of any details enclosed?

If they just capped the 6 or 8 serial spammers, you would already get rid of at least 2/3 of the really solid garbage.

They drive engagement.  They make some of the most popular posts.

Serial pest in the house! So glad you are back. Everyone was getting so worried when you hadn’t cranked out your usual 200+ nauseating posts yet today. There was real concern that you might be slipping down a few notches on the serial spammer leaderboard. It would be a tragedy if you lost your well-earned number one pest spot. Some were even showing signs of verbal diarrhea withdrawal. But no need to panic, you’re here now, already flooding the place with your usual unmitigated stream of mind-numbing drivel. Bravo!
