They are not dictating anything, two countries are negotiating a deal. You are just trying to turn a positive into a negative, rather unsuccessfully if I may say so. 8 minutes ago, Chomper Higgot said: It was widely reported over the last two weeks that the Starmer Government was negotiating with the U.S. for a reduced tariffs rate, offering tax breaks being part of the offer. Who reported that? The Guardian? But we are indeed free to do that now after leaving the EU. Thanks to Brexit. 8 minutes ago, Chomper Higgot said: Do you think Starmer and the Labour Government deserve any praise for negotiating a lower tariff rate? Assuming he did, No, not really. If it was up to Starmer we'd still be in the EU. He's reaping the rewards of the Brexiteers who handed him the cards. The same people whose vote he wanted to overturn. He should thanks us, and then apologize profusely. 1 1

Purdey Posted yesterday at 07:20 AM Posted yesterday at 07:20 AM Eggs are still expensive at $4.91 (consumer not wholesale price). Of course, the virus affecting chickens doesn't help as it causes a shortage that will raise prices on local eggs, but also importing more eggs now will cause prices to rise higher. Not much different from the EU. So add tariffs to imports will bump that up again.

The party is over. Also great to see the UK get much lower tariffs than the EU. Yet another benefit of Brexit. Oh really ! 10% tariffs on Jan Mayen? The island is uninhabited. Trump is an idiot who doesn';t know what he is doing and poorly advised by his self-serving economic advisers. 1 1 1

I find it entirely in line with his behaviour since he took office.
Middle Aged Grouch Posted 22 hours ago Posted 22 hours ago Very good news. As the US market is now closed to much of the world's goods, the brands will get a bit of modesty and stop ripping off consumers in Europe or Asia with absurdly high prices. Same for governance, who was abusing in inflated customs import duty rates all these decades. Time to think it over and reduce import duty rates in Thailand maybe and lower the market value of the Bhat.

Do you think it wise to place them on now instead as using them as leverage in the ceasefire deal? Russia, which the U.S. sanctioned following its full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, was not on the list. Trade between Moscow and Washington has shrunk by more than 90 percent in recent years, declining from $35 billion in 2021 to $3.5 billion in 2024. Canada and Mexico, on which Trump previously imposed a 25 percent tariff, were also left off the list. White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt told Axios that Russia was omitted because sanctions "preclude any meaningful trade" between the countries, although Moscow could face additional strong sanctions. https://www.newsweek.com/why-russia-escaped-trump-tariffs-sanctions-2054607 1
