I am asking for a friend of mine. He is going to land to thailand next saturday but he can't go to his local immigration to make a tm30 as the office will be closed on weekend. Can he just go on monday morning or will he have to pay a fine for reporting late? I don't know if he is going to stay in a hotel, apartment, or to his friend's house

It is the hotel, landlord or friends responsibility to do this, not his.

he needs to get the tm30 receipt at the immigration. Because he will have to use it for the border bounce next time

What will be his status in Thailand.

Entering visa exempt? 

Does he plan to have business with immigration? Example obtain an extension etc

If not do nothing. 

 

Edit: posted at same time. You mention border bounce. 

He should use a minivan border run company.

he will enter with a SETV and yes, he will also need it for 30 days extensions, border bounce as well. Shouldn't be an issue if he will go on monday morning?

No problem.

However wherever he is staying they can do a TM30 online and provide him with copy. 

No need for him to bother with trip to immigration.

For what he need a TM30 for a Border bounce? And if he do a border bounce after 1. of May he need to fill the TDAC upon return to Thailand and probably file a new TM30 .

The thing was simple from start. The only answer needed was: If immigration is closed when you arrive and need to do something there, it´s always ok to do that the first day they open.

Just to mention next weekend is Songkran and immigration offices will be closed anyway until Thursday 17th.

For proof of address in Thailand. Immigration officers use to ask when you are coming back from a border bounce

I always land on a Friday and arrive at my home late. I go to immigration on Mondays for report arrival and have done so for years. Never any problem.

Why does he need to go to immigration? Unless he’s staying in a hotel 

I doubt his friend/landlord will bother with a TM30. Surely he just needs to book into a hotel for a couple of days before he does his border bounce.

Yes, my thoughts exactly ... except 90-day reports if the "7-day grace period" expires over the weekend/holidays - but this does not apply to the OP.

Unfortunately, they have grace period or no grace periods depending of the immigration office and province as well.

Hotel, yes, landlord or friend, not necessarily.
It's also equally his responsibility as the occupant and tenant.

There is already a built-in grace period for 90-day reports.  You have 3 weeks to report.  If you fail to report within that 3 weeks and your reporting period ends on a weekend, you will be fined regardless of when the last day was, because you had 3 weeks to do it.

My friend will stay to his friend's house and they will go to report his stay at his local immigration when it will open again, after songkran. It's not his fault if immigration is closed on weekends and on songkran. I don't think they would fine him for reporting late as they are closed

That´s maybe if you do a report online. Never done that. In all other cases there is no built-in grace period, as it may differ depending on office and province.

No, they will not fine him.

Online, you have 1-week, officially, 14-days to 8 days before the report is "due" - though some report success up until the due-date.

 

By mail, it should be mailed (registered mail) 7 days before the due-date.

 

In person, you are "allowed" to report up to 2 weeks before it is due - no earlier - plus a "grace period" of 7 more days after the report-date.  I have read reports where IOs refused to honor the "in person" 7-days-after grace-period, but this is rare, as it is a published rule.

For 90 day reporting the rules are consistent.

As always couple of immigration offices may play by own rule book.

Never said that the rules are not consistent. As you say, some offices do different. For example my office. They only play after 7 days before and not late.

Correct.  My Immigration office (Rayong) doesn't appear to require a new TM30 when returning from overseas.
