Fox News easier to understand by slow thinking fans. CNN hated in use of faggy "big words".

Watching a report about the demonstrations in the US over the weekend, I saw a women carrying  a sign that said, "I was going to call Trump a C**T, but he has no depth or warmth."

I found it quite funny. Perhaps that makes me one of those low intelligence FOX watchers.

There is a rumor that Fox News intends to add subtitles written in crayon for their older viewers.

A highly suspect language survey. The fact is only people of kinder-garten mentality watch either FOX or CNN.

Well yes but it's also a sign of general falling standards of education. It is my view that many Americans don't consider the correct use of the English language as important, most American politicians sound as if they are speaking to five year old children while using English as a second language. There are no great orators in America, speeches by Winston Churchill would go right over their heads.

Fox News tends to use less advanced English vocabulary in their journalism compared to CNN.

A study analyzing the readability scores of CNN, MSNBC, and Fox News broadcasts between 2009 and 2020 indicated that Fox News had a measurably higher Flesch reading ease score, suggesting their broadcasts are generally easier to understand. This is attributed to the use of shorter sentences and simpler words. CNN and MSNBC, according to this study, tracked more closely with each other in terms of readability.

While this focuses on overall readability, which is influenced by sentence structure as well as vocabulary, the finding that Fox News uses simpler language overall suggests a tendency towards less advanced vocabulary.

It's important to note that this doesn't inherently mean one outlet is "better" than the other. Different audiences may prefer different levels of complexity in language. Additionally, the specific vocabulary used can also be influenced by the topics being covered and the intended message

They use the same simple vocabulary as POTUS.

POTUS rarely speaks in complete sentences and uses such vague and simple language his followers spend hours and hours trying to decipher that which is basically meaningless. It took me about 10 minutes of watching him speak in interviews (this is important, this is where he has to use his mind, not just read a prompter) to deduce the guy was basically kind of a rich, average intelligence sophomore, that managed to get pretty good at marketing himself to his fan base. A big part of his fan base is in the USA south which historically is not progressive and under educated as shown in studies.  He does poorly in places like the Northeast or all of the West coast of the USA which are much more progressive being centers of higher learning, tech industry and the like. More intelligent people can see through his obvious BS.

How does this have anything to do with the fact that Fox uses 8th grade English in it's reporting? CNN and all other news outlets have similar viewership. What are you on about? Seems you missed most of the point.

8th grade??  Yes, I can from your own command of the English language that you would know all about 8th grade English.

It's obvious that its complexities have passed you by...

Roger Ailes had the idea for Fox, and his Business Plan is pure cynicism. He realized normal news was above the ability of the less intelligent members of society to understand, so he devised the idea of "news for dumb people". He would gear down the language, and even had the idea of hiring less than bright lights as Talking Heads. He thought the dumb leading the dumb was a winner.

Advertisers, at first, were hesitant, as were financial backers. Ailes argued that while individually the target audience of dummies were not well to do, collectively they represented a major market opportunity, provided the right products were offered to them (like magic pillows or F-150s bought on credit). Ailes further argued that a network geared toward dummies could capture them all, while networks and cable channels geared toward a brighter audience would split the audience of intelligent people.

Ailes was right. AIles looked at the IQ Bell Curve and it dawned on him that half the people were to the left of the mean, and that then-current news media went way over their heads.

Fox was born.

What makes you feel so superior to others?

I have a question for you.  Look at the ranges in the graph.

1) This is based on the Flesch reading scale.   Which is defined as:

The Flesch Reading Ease test, developed by Rudolf Flesch, assesses text readability on a scale of 0 to 100, with higher scores indicating easier-to-read content.

Formula:

Flesch Reading Ease Score = 206.835 – 1.015 × (Total Words / Total Sentences) – 84.6 × (Total Syllables / Total Words

All the news stations are above 100, which is outside the bounds of the Flesch Reading Score.

2) if you look at the graph, is a two to four spread meaningful?

I have news for you

For content aimed at a general broadcast audience, strive for a Flesch Reading Ease score of 60 or higher, which corresponds to an 8th-grade reading level, ensuring broad accessibility and understanding.

Based on the data, CNN and MSNBC are also at an 8th-grade level.

This version of Biden, intellectually, analytically, is the best Biden ever." Joe Scarborough, who many confuse for the Banjo Kid in the movie Deliverance, thinks that today's Biden is better than when he was younger and sharper. President Biden constantly loses his train of thought and speaks incoherently. It's unclear if Scarborough is aware of this.

What's amazing is the slew of books coming out exposing the massive cover-ups.  But only now that the election is over.  That would have been handy information before the voters pulled the lever.  Only Fox covered it back then.  CNN and MSDNC just carried water for the Dems.

Quite so..

As of April 9, 2025, Fox News remains the number one cable news network in ratings, based on the latest available data for the first quarter of 2025 (January through March). According to Nielsen Media Research, Fox News dominated both primetime and total day viewership, outpacing rivals MSNBC and CNN by wide margins.

Do More Than Half of Americans Read Below a 6th-Grade Level?

This claim is true, according to a review of the U.S. education system that was conducted in September 2020. Let's explore.

A Gallup analysis published in March 2020 looked at data collected by the U.S. Department of Education in 2012, 2014, and 2017. It found that 130 million adults in the country have low literacy skills, meaning that more than half (54%) of Americans between the ages of 16 and 74 read below the equivalent of a sixth-grade level, according to a piece published in 2022 by APM Research Lab.
