In the event of your death

This is aimed at expats who live alone , particularly in Pattaya or Chiang Mai or Cebu or Da Nang or Siem Reap

If you live in a Condo  by yourself, do you have a Will or any instructions to a local Lawyer

Who checks up on you to see if you are still alive ?

Do you have any instructions to your family back home if you don't answer your messages?

When I die alone...

I want to have my ACs cranked up...

FULL BLAST....

So that I don't stink too much, when.....

They finally find me....

Three months from the date I am deceased.

Unfortunately my shadow of a misses is never more than about 5 feet from my side so the chances of me getting to die alone are in the negative, I can't even go down to the pub for a couple of beers with my buddies without WWIII unless there are significant shopping costs remuneration involved :coffee1:

When I went back to Myanmar last year, I gave my brother in the UK some brief instructions as to what to do if I got in the way of a stray bullet, (or bus).

- Burn me and chuck my ashes in the river

- Don't bother searching for $$$ bank accounts, gold jewelry etc 'cos there ain't any

I'm currently in Jomtien at my condo (can't get back to Myanmar right now - visas have been suspended). If I died, the first that people would know of it would be the smell, but that might take some time since all the condo building residents seem to be permanently overcome by cannabis smoke....

How can you be sure that you do not smell now?

All the neighbors will help the Mrs. with my liquor and I will be BBQ. Just like anyone else here.

Final trip down the road to the local monastery on the back of a pick up. (same old rusty heap that everyone else rides on I presume) All expenses paid trip courtesy of our 3 village insurance fund.

And that will be all folks!

I live alone.  and it occurred to me to have a list of contacts printed on paper for people to contact if I died.  I have the paper with list of names hanging on the wall of my apartment in 2 locations.  on the back of my front door and on the head post of my bed. just common sense.

I was thinking about how to avoid dying, alone in my condo. If suspecting a sudden onset of say; heart attack or stroke, assuming I could use the phone, what emergency number is it best to call for an urgent ambulance or medical assistance? Should I register with the nearest hospital (only about 750 metres away)?

Very good

You are a REALIST and a planner.

Many are in denial ,some guys late 70's etc , my father was like that

I remember him kicking me out of his house back in 1998 after I told him that it's unlikely at 78 he would be around in 5 years ,he did survive the 5 years though made it to 83

Does your list of contacts go further and mention who specifically is your next of kin / address / contact details etc., whether there's a will, where the original is, list critical documents / location etc., name and contact details of executor, give details of who holds a power of attorney and for what actions etc?

EMS 1669.

Also register with the Tourist Police app, "i lert u", there is an icon which when clicked on results in an immediate call back from an English-speaking officer asking what help is required and shows your location.  I know that this works because I clicked on it inadvertently and had the police on the phone immediately.

I bet most here have no Will or instructions as to what they want done. Just about everyone I know laugh and says No.   Most seem to actually believe "my embassy will handle everything."

Then there are the condo owners no instructions or Will as to what to do with the property leaving their home country family with a big burden.

All so irresponsible. We are all going to die so deal with it.

I have a will made out to my partner, of over 30 years, and she got layer's office she knows to draw it up at no cost to me.  (no idea what she paid and don't care) She is happy so now so am I as I do not have to care about it.

PS; Talking only about Thailand assets.

... The amount of sick leave all without medical certificates was atrocious !

Stop being selfish and start thinking of others instead of pushing in the 711 line

The reality about post like this?  It's the "Irresponsibility Brigade" out to inform "irresponsible guests living in Thailand" to be "responsible citizens like themselves."

People die alone all of the time - farang expats and Thais.  If they choose not to live up to your own expectations of what constitutes being 'responsible,' well - as I told the OP: "It's their business. Not yours." They are adults - if they choose to make plans, up to them.  If they choose not to make plans, up to them.

By the way.  The embassies have guideline on how they want their citizen's bodies handled, as most Western countries are in fact nanny-states, so the dead body will be taken care of.  Everything else goes to probate court, which is why there are probate courts.  If the deceased actually has assets, well, "Knives out."  The heirs and those who feel they have claim to those assets will fight it out in court.  And if the Thai government can get a cut too?  I'm sure they are happy to oblige.

 "That's irresponsible!"
 And none of your business.

After AseanNow doesn't receive their daily dosage of immunoglobulin posts to highlight in the right-hand side of the website's pages which are reserved for special posters like bob smith (and all his other aliases) and of course GammaGobulin, they'll probably file a police report reporting him as missing. He'll probably be found within a couple of days.
