This would end the political career of the perpetrator in most Western countries.

The perpetrator in this case doesn't have a political career to end.

You may think that but "we all" do not know that.

No names until several days will have elapsed after which a police test will confirm no alcohol in the BMW driver's system. After a few more days all will be forgotten, and another hi-so half-wit gets away scot-free with no charges.

Really?...

"The Royal Thai Highway Police will press charges against Smitthiphat Leenawarat, the son of a prominent Pathum Thani politician, following a traffic incident.

Pol Col Kuekkong said that blood alcohol tests conducted two hours after the incident showed no trace of alcohol in his system.

He also addressed public concern over the red number plate on Mr Smitthiphat's BMW. Preliminary checks revealed inconsistencies with the vehicle's registration. The Department of Land Transport will probe the matter further.

If fraud is confirmed, the car and various documents will be handed over to Lam Luk Ka police for a possible document forgery case.

In addition to the reckless driving charge, Mr Smitthiphat will face an additional charge for driving without a valid licence, as his licence expired in June 2021. Investigations are also examining the speed at which he approached the M-Flow toll booth".

His first day driving. And then with Pa's car...

Everybody will remember 🤗

Where was that reported?  He got his licence years ago.

Clearly drunk. I guess the police need to wait 24 hours before taking action so he can sober up.

Tested within a couple of hours and not at all drunk.

That driver was absolutely wasted with alcohol!! Drunk driving at its worst!!

No he wasn't, as has been reported, he was absolutely sober.  Sober driving at its worst.

The news really ought to release the BMW driver's name so people will know who not to vote for in the coming election.

It has done.

And, as many are pointing out, there's been no mention of DUI checks yet...

There has been mention of that but most AN posters don't bother reading anything else. He was sober.

Where you can get away with murder by simply bribing the victim's family so they won't press charges (seriously).

Doubtless you can quote an example of that?  Seriously.

Obtaining a license doesn't mean subsequently driving a car.

"a candidate in the upcoming local government elections"

I don't have Facebook, but my wife showed me this, his grovelling isn't paying off, people saying he should be doing this at the hospital, seems like this isn't going to be 'you know who my father is', Thais are well pissed off with this behaviour.

https://www.facebook.com/share/v/1AXAh85a3C/

The guy in the pick up caused the accident by changing lanes abruptly, no signal use .

This is typical Thai behavior on the road!

The young kid in the BMW , upped it a few notches by performing pay back , ramming his car  into the pick up to force the driver to stop.

The young lad should be charged with assault !

He has 4 charges against him, 2 for injuring people in the pickup, 1 for dangerous driving, 1 for causing damage to another vehicle.

Don't forget a 5th charge, as his license expired in 2021, which means technically he is an unlicensed driver, and would have to take the driving license testing all over again as it is way past the 1 year grace period for renewal. He may also end up with a 6th charge for speeding through the toll booths,  that speed was another factor in the initial incident.

The issue that sparked the fit of road rage is a daily occurrence ..... when you exit the far right toll booth (usually EasyPass) there's a concrete barrier that forces you into the next lane, but despite the white lines in the left lanes directing the other drivers to the left, many drivers just go straight, forcing the 'EasyPass' driver on the right to brake to slot in behind the driver who's drifting into the right hand lane.

It's a bad design of the toll booth exit roads, but most people have learned to check the nearside lane and adjust their speed to merge safely.  In this case the BMW driver charged ahead and got caught between the truck and the concrete barrier.

The initial cause is the common trait of Thai drivers to use brakes as a last resort.

1. Keep going

2. Flash your headlights

3. Crash

4. Seek revenge

5.Consider using brakes

I think that it, more likely than not, does as the car in which he passed his test would have to be driven away.

In Thailand one must have driven a car in the driving test to, legally, obtain a licence and the chances of never driving a car after the issuance of the licence until the day of this incident is, practically, zero.

That career hasn't started until he is elected.

Nah.  When you run, you're involved in politics.

When I got my driver's license with just 18 I didn't have the money to buy a car. My first car I bought as a student when I was 20.

But my father let me drive his car. Sometimes. Not often.

It's not different from Thailand.

So your comment makes zero sense.

Jeez - He is a pretty bad driver then, no wonder he lost his license. I hope the media report the real reason why he 'forgot to renew his license'!

You don't seem to understand what HI-So means in Thailand. It's doesn't mean the political class. It means the well off and socially active upper middle class and upper class.

Just one more intitled P.O.S.

Hope he dies soon.
