Going by your posting record I would suggest that the above is one of your more hypocritical statements!

And/or people swept up in a political CULT of personality.

I don't think you need to be stupid for that to happen but the leader they're following is most definitely incredibly stupid.  He basically ruined many decades of American progress which led to incredible American wealth and dominance and flushed it down the toilet in almost no time. No enemy leader could have dreamed of damaging the USA so dramatically and so quickly without launching a nuke and ruining themselves as well.

Judging by his overall disapproval numbers on the economy there are likely a lot of Republican voters who are feeling a sense of regret and a great deal of betrayal. In addition they're probably feeling quite a bit of confusion as they're realizing that the man that they thought they voted for is not even close to being the man he truly is.

Many of us have known for decades that the man is just a pure huckster, and everything about him is an act but some people really need to be convinced.

With many people, once they got attached to a theory, it was hard to get them detached. They’d screen out unhelpful facts, invent favorable ones, and ignore contradictions in their own claims. Look at those Sandy Hook, multiple fraud convictions, and Jan. 6th truthers, babbling about false flags and crisis actors and all the rest. When people were motivated enough to believe something, they were going to believe it no matter what. There was no such thing as a bridge too far.

You're right. In fact, if a president willfully tried to weaken the US I don't think they could have done a better job than Trump.

I agree with everything you said. What truly staggers me though in all this is how many people are just now waking up to the fact that Trump isn’t delivering on his promises, again. When he left office in 2020, Gallup had his approval rating at 34%, one of the lowest in modern history. Only Truman and Nixon left with worse numbers, and Trump remains the only president in Gallup’s records who never once hit 50% approval during his entire term. His average approval rating was just 41%, the lowest ever recorded. The exact numbers themselves aren’t even the point, they simply reflect what was already clear: he was never widely liked, trusted, or respected by the American public during his first term.

So how, then, do we explain the fact that so many of the very people who were disappointed the first time still turned around and voted for him again? That’s the part that defies logic. It’s not just political blindness anymore, it’s something deeper and harder to understand. It wasn’t as if he left office on a high note. He exited disgraced, unpopular, and even more polarizing than when he entered. He was already a convicted criminal during his 2024 campaign. And yet, people who lived through the first four years of his dysfunction still chose to believe that this time it would be different. Why? On what basis?

To be clear, it’s not surprising at all that he’s turned out to be exactly the same, if not at least twice as bad, than he was during his first term. What is surprising, and almost incomprehensible, is that people fell for it again. They saw the product, bought it, tasted it, hated it, and then willingly bought it again, only to complain that it tastes exactly the same the second time. Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice… well, that’s where we are now.

Well, he had the job before for 4 years, got fired, rehired. I've never known an employer provide a 3 year probationary period. Typically its 3 to 6 months. In the real world, he'll be having his mid-probation review, and conversations would be made about whether its best for him to move on.

This is kind of where the 100 day approval rating  polls came from' its a snap judgement by the electorate about how well a politician is doing. In a constitutional sense, his first actual review will be in the mid-terms. next year, which everyone will know won't actually be a bunch of local elections fought exclusively on local issues, but an actual poll of his performance to date.

Its not looking good for him:

https://news.gallup.com/poll/659534/trump-first-quarter-approval-rating-below-average.aspx

Though neither is it looking great for the Democrats either.  But ratings of individual members of the "opposition" is probab irrelevant. America doesn't really have a leader of the opposition. In 2013, no one was speculating about the popularity of the eventual winner of the 2016 election, because he didn't declare he was evenrunning until 2015.

It might be that the Steve Bannon strategy is effectively nullifying effective opposition. Or maybe its just chaotic because the government doesn't know what it's doing.
