Bangkok Bank has stopped international card payment unless OTP's are used, this stops online gaming, Netflix and several other businesses outside Thailand from now being able to be paid as they do not use OTP in payments. I find it strange as I have been using my card for years making payments without problems, Have to wonder if this has something to do with the tariffs being placed especially as Bangkok Bank is chinese backed, has anyone else using banks other than Bangkok Bank had this OTP thing  pushed on them, it started yesterday morning, had already made one payment that went through then 30 minutes later it no longer worked, very strange as no for warnings were made.

The thread is about International Cards being use, not Bkk Banks own Debit card.

Can I pay say Netflix or Betfred via Bangkok bank using my Barclaycard? How?

What did you expect from Disney Hotstar.................. Intelligent content?

He said Bangkok Bank card?  Netflix Thailand accepts Bangkok Bank debit card without issues.  This could  be an alternative if one wants to consume Neftlix content while in Thaialnd.  For Thailand and just about anythiing that comes out of Thailand it is better to use Thaialnd based cards.  I have encountered so many problems with using my US based credit cards for business from Thailand(Bangkok Airways, Thai Airways and many hotels).  It is has been like this for me for years.    Also, how can I use one card from a from a foreign country for a service in Thailand through a local bank? Are you saying that Thailand companies use  Thai based banks as payment processors and this is the problem?

My card is  a Mastercard issued by Bangkok Bank, this is part of the message they sent me "the bank has suspended payment transactions for goods and services with most online merchants registered abroad that do not use the OTP SMS service, as these platforms are often associated with fraudulent activities",.  My problem is that when I set my card up for international payments I had to accept that I took full responsibility for any fraudulent payments made on my card, now they are saying that the bank is changing the agreement we made which stops me using my card to make payments outside Thailand when Master Card is not thai and the money being used is mine(debit).

I'm trying to follow what you're reporting above... but not entirely clear...

Are you saying you have a BKK Bank Mastercard debit card, not credit card.... And that BKKB lately is telling you that you won't be able to use that debit card to make debit purchases/charges anymore involving foreign (non-Thai) merchants that don't accept OTP code confirmations as part of the purchase process???

Then this card is quite useless...

I stopped using my Bangkok Bank card for online payments many years ago, ever since they changed to TPN it has been unreliable at best.

No problems whatsoever with my Kasikorn Bank cards, on the other hand. So that would be my recommendation if you're looking for a reliable alternative.

I am looking at changing banks if they do not sort this out as it effedts several things I pay for online including my anti virus software as well as a few other pieces of srftware to keep my computer safe and running.

I paid y'day with my Bangkok Bank debit card for train tickets I booked in Austria. No problem at all. Seller made it clear that safekey or similar OTP system is required.

More to do with Bangkok Bank using TPN and not Mastercard processing facilities.

TPN has always been iffy for overseas payments.

What is TPN?

Thanks, been thinking about this for a while. Just worried about banking fees, as my FCDs (Foreign Currency Deposits) are with Bangkok Bank.

Also I'll have to explain what an LTR visa is as their conditions mention only Non Os... T.I.T

Okay.  I'm going to reveal my ignorance here.  Honest question...  Why would Bangkok Bank be in the middle of a transaction between Barclaycard and Netflix?

Sorry, I meant my Bangkok Card not Barclaycard. Apologies. You did not show ignorance, but very good understanding.

Nope.  I'm admittedly pretty ignorant of high finance and the vagaries of international banking.  Thanks for clearing that up.

Edit:  I thought maybe Barclaycard was a service offered like they may offer Visa and Mastercard and UnionPay.

Why in the world would anyone make such stupid payments?

Sorry Fritz but TPN handles all Bangkok Bank card payments, and TPN is Chinese backed, same company as Union pay I understand.

TPN was created to move Asian card payments out of western companies hands, only Bangkok Bank in Thailand currently use them, mainly because they charge the bank half the amount of Barclaycard and Mastercard. Don't ask me how they got permission to use MC and BC trademarks on the cards, I have no idea.

Thanks for the info. Had a closer look and apparently more banks are using it and it is for Union Pay: https://www.finextra.com/pressarticle/63290/thai-payment-network-goes-live
