April 24, 2025Apr 24 Has anyone else noticed this? Lately, none of the 7-Eleven stores in my area are giving receipts at all. Sometimes I get a tiny slip with just a barcode. Other times — nothing. The cashier just takes your money, gives your change, and stares at you like the transaction is complete. When I ask for a receipt (or even the barcode slip), I get blank looks or a confused “Huh?” from the staff. Only after prompting, or if a supervisor intervenes, do they hand over the mini-slip — and even then, it’s unclear what I’m actually getting. One staff member recently told me, “It’s digital now,” but didn’t elaborate. That’s all fine and good if we can actually see what we paid for — but we can’t. There’s no visible itemized list, no total breakdown, and no confirmation the cashier rang everything up correctly. I’ve lived in Thailand long enough to know that mistakes at checkout happen. Items get miscounted, scanned twice, or not discounted properly. At 7-Eleven — where many of the staff are very young and under-trained — it’s not uncommon. I don’t want to be rude about it, but without a receipt, we’re just expected to trust that everything was rung up accurately every single time. I also use my wife’s phone number for the ALL Member points system, but I have no idea where the receipts are supposed to go. The ALL Member app is still mostly in Thai, and it’s unclear how (or if) those receipts are even visible. What I don’t understand is — why 7-Eleven? Every other store still gives receipts. Restaurants give receipts. Even street vendors often write a bill if you ask. But CP Group’s flagship retail chain just… stopped? I’m not against digital progress. I like e-wallets. I like loyalty apps. I’m not some anti-tech complainer. But this feels like a quiet policy change with zero communication and no way to verify a basic transaction. Am I the only one who finds this concerning? Has anyone figured out how to see the receipts digitally? Is this happening across the country, or just in some locations? Would love to hear what others are experiencing.

A lot of us do full shops at 7-Eleven: groceries, personal care stuff, over-the-counter meds, etc. Sometimes it’s 10–15 items, not one. And with no receipt and no itemized list, there’s no way to double-check anything if a mistake happens. That’s a basic customer right anywhere in the world — not just some weird expat obsession. If you don’t care about receipts, that’s cool. But maybe don’t assume everyone else shops the same way.

Sure — in the U.S. for example, convenience stores are overpriced and last-resort stops. But this isn’t the U.S. In Thailand, 7-Eleven is affordable and everywhere. It’s normal to buy full meals, snacks, toiletries, even pay bills there. It’s not just “convenient,” it’s practical — and for many, it’s a regular part of daily life. So yeah, I do some of my grocery shopping there. Like millions of other people.
April 24, 2025Apr 24 Author Quick update — my wife finally dug through the 7-Eleven ALL Member app settings and found a way to view receipts and update preferences. So yes, they do exist — just deeply buried with no signage or explanation. I still think it’s fair to be frustrated. If even Thai users don’t know where to find them, and the staff can’t explain it, that’s a communication failure — not just a tech upgrade. So, not totally receipt-less. Just unnecessarily complicated.

April 24, 2025Apr 24 There are shops in the US where, at the end of the transaction, the cashier asks if you want a receipt. If you say 'yes' the thing pops out of the register at the push of a button.

April 24, 2025Apr 24 Getting rid of receipts is a huge cost savings for 7-11, BUT they should give one on request IMHO. I like the no receipt deal because it is very environmentally responsible. The exception is when I make larger purchases I want to make sure I get the discounts and the items were priced correctly. Sometimes I'll try to catch it on the POS digital display but 1 out of 10 times at 7-11 something is messed up. Either the discount or promotion isn't applied or the cashier makes a mistake and scans an item twice.

That was to get the customers to rat out the cashiers that were pocketing the money... Or maybe that was another chain.
April 25, 2025Apr 25 I pay cash for almost everything, ask for a receipt and write down what I spend every day. I like to keep track of where my money is spent. I got in a bit of a jam a few years ago with credit and there is no way I'm going to do that again. I need receipts. Having said that, I almost never go into 7-11. 😇

It was a real eye opener how much I was spending, even a nickel, dime and dollar at a time. I do a repeat every few years, but only for a month or so. My spending habits have gotten much better.

Having said that, I almost never go into 7-11. 😇 I also keep an Excel of everything I spend, cash, cards, bank, D Debits....everything. Started doing it when I had my hotel business. Annoyed the Mrs at first, but now after 15 years she accepts it, and makes sure that I do put everything down each evening. Keeps a track of your well-earned, and spent, money. And a record of what you bought in previous months/years for warranty etc.
April 25, 2025Apr 25 Possibly 7-11 staff noticed that 999 out of 1000 customers toss the little receipt in the bin outside the door immediately on leaving the shop. That might have resulted in questioning the utility/necessity of providing receipts.

One great way to reduce papers littering the ground, sometimes right besides the litter bin outside the store. Some little anguish about perhaps being over-charged is a small price to pay...

If you pay by cash, you would be holding up customers behind you if you were checking it before you left the counter, AND they are all printed in Thai, so checking it can be time-consuming. Looking at the receipt on the 711 app would be equally time-consuming. I use a 711 membership number, so I don't get paper receipts. Most people using commonsense would pay, take the receipt, and look at it after they leave the counter if they want to check it.

Always have a ballpark idea what the tally will be before paying, and if too far off, I'd like to know if over charged, or if they missed something, as most items with be pre-made meals, needing heating, and easily missed or double charged. Especially if 2 people get involved in the process. Paying attention as they ring things up helps, as the digital display does face the customer.

I also prefer receipts, but I now use my girlfriend's membership, so I made the sacrifice of living dangerously and risking being overcharged LOL... for the greater good of accumulating points on her membership. There are some benefits of using a membership. You can get extra discounts on some items, along with discounts for using some credit cards. For example, a while back, I got a 50 baht discount for using a MasterCard on several occasions. It might balance out for the occasional mistake made at the till. I usually keep an eye on the cash register screen as the items are being scanned. If I hear extra clicks on items, I make an immediate inquiry.
