Trump Admin Revokes Four Thousand Student Visas Over Serious Crimes

In a sweeping move during its first 100 days, the Trump administration revoked the visas of 4,000 foreign students, most of whom had committed serious crimes on U.S. soil, according to senior State Department officials. The crackdown marks a significant moment in the administration’s broader immigration enforcement agenda, targeting individuals who, officials say, abused their student status to engage in criminal activity with little fear of consequence.

More than 90 percent of those whose visas were revoked had been convicted or charged with serious offenses such as arson, robbery, domestic abuse, DUI, child endangerment, and both wildlife and human trafficking. A senior State Department source revealed that over 500 of the affected students had records for assault alone. “They came and they were breaking the law with no consequences,” the source said. “We set up a special action team to handle this.”

The operation was carried out in coordination with the Department of Homeland Security, which utilized its databases to cross-reference visa holders with law enforcement records. Only “serious” offenses were taken into account, officials emphasized. “There were cases like where it was not a serious thing, like littering, or somebody had charges that were dropped, where we didn’t revoke those. Because it should be a serious matter,” the source added.

The affected students, many of whom came from Asia and the Middle East, were swiftly notified that their visas had been rescinded. While some left the country voluntarily, others are now under the scrutiny of immigration agents and face possible deportation as part of the administration's broader efforts to remove undocumented or criminally involved non-citizens. However, it remains unclear how many of these students are still in the country and awaiting removal.

The move signals what may be the beginning of a larger effort to examine and potentially revoke visas in other categories as well. “Perhaps in the future other visa categories, not just students, will be looked at,” the source hinted.

Secretary of State Marco Rubio has been a key figure in the policy's execution and has taken a particularly hard stance on foreign students engaging in political activism. Under the administration’s “zero tolerance” approach, even participation in anti-Israel protests could jeopardize a student’s visa status. “No one’s entitled to a student visa,” Rubio said during a recent cabinet meeting. “If you come to this country as a student, we expect you to go to class and study and get a degree. If you come here to vandalize a library, take over a campus, and do all kinds of crazy things, we’re going to get rid of these people.”

The crackdown has sparked debate over how the U.S. should balance its commitment to higher education and openness with the need to protect public safety and enforce immigration laws. While supporters see the move as a long-overdue correction to what they view as a lax visa system, critics argue it may send a chilling message to international students and potentially harm America’s reputation as a destination for education and innovation.

Agree kick them out, as long as they get due process. No more unsubstaniated accusations as the basis for deportation.

Correct!! And if you don't leave and don't have proper authority to stay here, you are ILLEGAL.

Where are the couple stone Leftist who usually make remarks in favor of illegals or at least complaining that Trump has no right is arresting these people?

Well that’s nice…if the previous administration thought about that then maybe the lefties would still be in control.

From reading the OP it does seem that an appropriate process has been followed.  Don't see a link to the rule that clarifies "do X and your visa is revoked", but I'm sure NYP's 'source' knows the rule and that it is being followed, especially when that source refers to littering and that this doesn't mean a visa is revoked.

Only a left wing extremist could object to this; and if you are an American and object to this, then you are a traitor and a danger to the safety and welfare of ordinary American citizens.

Very misleading. Trump is not stopping student visas for everyone. Over 1 million are issued yearly

America wants foreign students that are going to study, not become activists or worse, that is not why they are there.

At home in their country they can do what they want!

The fear of the being targeted for vague, minor infraction and some with no reason brought fear to foreign students who will rather go elsewhere than US. It is an economic cost to US with policy that is unclear, without warning and no due process.

Complete and utter nonsense from another left wing extremist; the visas being revoked are only for those visa holders that have committed a criminal offence. Visas are not being denied to genuine students. I hope you are not an American citizen spouting this nonsense.

The problem is that Trump’s administration action is arbitrary, opaque and potentially unlawful. Judges are issuing emergency orders to stop the operation. This smacks of an authoritarian type of policy.

While I am not a fan of Trump or his administration, if these students really have committed serious crimes while studying at US universities, I see nothing wrong in revoking their visas.

I only wish the government in my home country had the balls to do the same.

The fear is unsubstantiated but the constant fear mongering by the left and its Mainstream media minions is the cause. Not the actual threat of it happening as most intelligent people know that these lame propaganda article are baseless. The sky has been falling for 10 years now.

If you actually read real news, you will find no laws have been broken and it is the activist judges who are the problem.  But don't worry no one is above the law and they are being prosecuted for their criminal charges.  All those stops, have been or will be overturned by an upper court. Americans are thrilled with this new administration that does what it campaigned on. Don't listen to the proven lying media, they are unhappy the grift is coming to an end

The students should have their day in court and not have their visa revoked by altering the SEVIS data-base. Thought this is a law and order administration.

I am reading crimes not free speech issues? Crimes, I support deportation. Free speech of higher education campus … that would bear a closer look and judgement. But I do note, my perspective is as Professor Emeritus of History educated in academic discussion/ academic debate/academic argument.

More nonsense from you; nothing opaque or arbitrary about the action; it is made perfectly clear that if you are a foreign student as a guest of the US on a student visa, and you commit a criminal act, your visa will be revoked.

The fact that you object to this speaks volumes about your support for criminal activity, and your indifference to the welfare of ordinary American citizens; disgraceful attitude.

I am a far-left liberal and despise Trump and almost everything he does. This cancellation of student visas is, however, one of the worst recent offenses. I don't know how he can be stopped, but however that could happen, I'd be all for it. 😡

What is, “getting done”is chaos and instability. Still awaiting results of these actions. Ageeed, he certainly has caused movement.
