Might be, but I just answered him when he asked what world problems start at home. They all do in one way or another, as that's where your thinking originates. What you learn most about how the world is ,is from age 0-5, and it's further proven from then on.

The last job I had in the UK, almost all of my colleagues had tattoos. They have become de rigueur.

 

As ever, I chose to question things and arrive at a different conclusion. It has been my downfall.

The last 3 jobs I had in the UK (1978-2009), nobody had tattoos, because we were all well educated people.

 

When you state all your co-workers had tattoos, it doesn't make us think it's normal, it just makes us think you worked with uneducated people, and probably fitted in with them.

Employers didn't tolerate tattoos back in the day. You wouldn't get hired. 

 

2009 is still a fairly long time ago. Not sure exactly when they started becoming in fashion. 

 

Now employers tolerate them. So because people are allowed tattoos in the workplace, they have them.

My IT guy at the last place I worked had a bunch of tattoos. 

 

So your theory is outdated. 

 

You people are dinosaurs who have not adapted your beliefs to the changes in society.

 

SOME people with tattoos are low-lifes yet. You need to pick up the vibe from the person, not the tattoos.

I've worked with teachers, nurses, doctors, police, to name a few. Some had tattoos, some didn't. All were educated people.

 

Discrimination appears to be clouding your sight and judgment.

 

Then again, 16 years has past since you last worked. Times have changed. It seems you need to keep up.

I'd say the general observation still holds true. I work in the mining industry, on several projects globally, and my observation is that the number of tattoos correlates with education level; the fewer the greater the chance the person holds at least one degree. Yes there are exceptions, so it's not a matter of discrimination, rather that better educated generally people don't get tattooed or have very few.

I just saw a middle-aged Thai woman with the words "F*** the ___" something tattooed on her arm. I couldn't make it out.

She's probably quite poor and disenfranchised. So can we let her express some angst through a tattoo? 

Or do we need to judge her?

Ha ha. The majority had degrees. Uneducated. Ha.

 

You may find the tattoo popularity explosion in the UK will surprise you. All and sundry have them. It has become normalised. The UK has probably moved on since you left. When I was young in the UK, tattoos were the preserve of working class men. I think you are still in this mindset. You will find the UK has considerably changed.

 

I am not sure what you mean about me fitting in. I chose not to have any tattoos. Surely that would mean I chose not to care less about following the fashion.
