Giant red flags, is that a sign of winning?

 

Target just sent up a giant red flag about the U.S. consumer

 

"High-income U.S. consumers are pulling back. Mortgage applications are down, Walmart (WMT) is reporting grocery gains from monied households suddenly keen for deals on eggs and bananas. And now Target joins a growing list of beloved brands waving the red flag that a recession may be coming."

Red flag? 

 

I think they're suffering from the big ass rainbow flag they've been flying.  They don't understand their customers.

So it's actually not cheap, in particular if you select a longer period (5 years). It's actually more expensive than before the bird flu epidemic.

I agree that eggs are still not cheap but this doesn't alter the fact that Trump said he'd bring down the price of eggs and that's what's happened and it happened fast. Bit like he said he'd shut down the open border and he did that and once again did it fast.

Trump made this promise last year during his campaign, same as Vance. He did not bring the price of eggs down compared to the price at the time he made this promise. 🙂

Eggs are almost down to Oct 2024 levels and the trend is the price is still falling.

Eggs is eggs. Let's be honest. Nothing he's done has likely impacted the cost of eggs either way. But tariffs will have a real effect on Targets prices.

Trump was already campaigning about it in August.

Having said that, if the bird flu pandemic ends, I don't see why eggs shouldn't go back to a "normal" price. The U.S. was a net exporter in 2024, so their price shouldn't be affected by tariffs (provided input costs are not affected).

You ask a lot of questions. Big tariffs on the EU and Apple is a big deal.  I guess the market thinks - who's next and what's next and is this idiot ever going to learn with all these random pronouncements. 

All large US retailers are feeling the effect of tariffs.
