I presume that Immigration still hasn't fixed their computer systems, so the first 90 day report after reentering the Kingdom can't be done online.  Does anyone have recent experience of making such a report by post to Chaengwattana? And if so, was it successful or unsuccessful? (I really don't want to have to waste several hours making the report in person.)

There's no problem with the online system.  It's their policy that the first report when returning to Thailand must be in person, not any issue with the online system.  

 

Bangkok can reliably be submitted by mail.  The response is very long, but it will come eventually as long as it is postmarked 14 days before your due date.

You can do the first report after return to Thailand via mail.

It's just not often mentioned.

Be aware to post it 15 days prior to due date. 

In Chaengwattana you have to do the first report after you come back into the country in person.
 

There's no downside to trying it online 2 weeks before your due date, BUT keep in mind that most people who try it (in Bangkok) get this rejection:

I will return to Thailand soon after 2 week abroad. I will return to my registered address, and have completed the Tdac.

Do I have to do anything else, other than making the first 90 day report in person? I'm answer to Jomtien immigration.

On a side note, since I usually make the report online, and as such will receive next month a reminder. Has anyone tried to complete that one, instead of waiting 90 days after arrival?

As soon as you exited Thailand the previous count became irrelevant as did the reminder email. 

 

Your new report due date is 90 days counting entry date as day 1.

By all means trot off to Jomitien Soi 5 in window 2 weeks prior and up to one week after due date for your TM47 report.

Two experts, two different opinions.  I'm confused.

The last two times I have gone to Jomtien Immigration to make a 90-day report, they've told me it's not necessary if one is returning to the same address as before. I said that when I renewed last year, they fined me for not having a TM-30 in my passport. The agent looked in my passport and found the one they gave me then, and said it was all I needed. I hope that's correct.

A 90-day report and a TM30 are completely different things.

I was under the impression that the Immigration regulation on the 90-day report after returning from out of the country was required to be done in person - maybe to do another tm.30 even though it is the same location that an expat may have been using forever.

You can make an appointment at CW online to file your 90 day report (or to extend your visa, apply for re entry permit, etc) via the immigration website.  Then it doesn't take hours. 

 

Or, as Dr Jack says, just send all the documents, including a stamped self addressed envelope, by registered post, before the 15 day deadline.  

 

I prefer going in person, just to know straight away that it's done and dusted..

If the policy is "in person" as you say, why do you say mail in is allowed which clearly is not in person?

It does take hours if you don't live near there and include the time to get there and back.

There is a problem, my second report after returning to Thailand was rejected online despite the fact that I did it correctly and in time.

TM 30 has nothing to do with TM47
