Residents of Najomtien, were left shaken after a Russian national was caught drifting a high-powered BMW in a public beachfront car park in the early hours of the morning.

 

The incident occurred at approximately 01:00, on 29 May near Ban Amphur Beach in the Sattahip District. A widely circulated video posted on Facebook shows the black BMW 320d, registered in Bangkok, speeding recklessly and drifting, just metres from homes and shops.

 

Local residents expressed alarm over the stunt, which took place in the heart of a residential and commercial area. Concerns were raised about public safety.

 

Reporters visiting the scene found visible tyre marks and circular skid patterns across the public car park, confirming reports of dangerous drifting. Ms. Raphiphan Rattanaliam, the mayor of Najomtien Municipality, personally inspected the site and immediately contacted Najomtien Police to request swift legal action. She also urged the public to report any future reckless driving to help prevent accidents and injuries.

 

Within 12 hours of the incident, Pol. Col. Pattana Robroo, Superintendent of Najomtien Police Station, ordered an investigation. Using video footage and social media evidence, investigators identified the driver as Mr. Ivan, a 36-year-old Russian citizen residing in Huay Yai, Bang Lamung District.

 

Police located Mr. Ivan’s residence and found the black BMW parked outside. He was taken into custody and brought to Najomtien Police Station for questioning, where he admitted to the stunt.

 

Mr. Ivan was formally charged with:

 

Reckless driving causing potential danger to others, punishable by up to one year in prison, a fine of 5,000–20,000 baht, or both.

 

Driving in a manner likely to cause harm to persons or property, which carries a fine of up to 4,000 baht.

 

In addition, police have contacted immigration authorities with a recommendation to revoke Mr. Ivan’s visa and deport him, citing Section 12(7) of the Immigration Act. The provision allows for expulsion of individuals deemed a threat to public order or safety.

 

Superintendent Pattana Robroo emphasised, “Public spaces are not racetracks. Dangerous driving that endangers the public or disturbs the peace will not be tolerated and will be met with strict legal consequences.”

 

Mr. Ivan now awaits prosecution at the Pattaya Provincial Court. His future in Thailand remains uncertain, pending immigration proceedings.

Maybe you're fortunate and don't have to listen to these boneheads at all hours, including 0300-0500 screaming their cars and motorcycles on local public roadways and parking areas but many of us do, every night of the week. Definitely NOT an over-reaction.  He is an adult acting like an idiot 16 year old.

Maybe he was fulling his lifelong dream to  do some donuts ..a one time occurrence  who knows if he does it routinely or not ? 

seems  to me an overreaction to revoke his visa for  such a misdermeaner  maybe the police have found other evidence that he is a serial "donutter" ?

Usually, it’s local teens on motorbikes with modified exhaust systems.
Maybe they should be imprisoned too?
I guess confiscating their vehicles is good enough.

Revoking visas is clearly inappropriate but a suitable financial penalty and a yellow card should perhaps be the minimum.

The danger posed in a deserted car park was far less than the average everyday driving seen on the roads here every day. Half a donut is not drifting. Nor is the smallest size diesel engine BMW’ produce " high power". Pathetic overreaction re revoking visa.

If you check the video you can see the large house like building shown below containing several shophouses immediately behind the vehicle.  To the right of that where the vehicles are parked there is the main soi leading into the beach from the centre of the village which is reasonably narrow and also full of small shophouses.  The fact that in the video you can clearly see the white ticket booth like building to the left shows how close he actually was?  Apart from weekend daytimes, Ban Amphur is a sleepy fishing village which is dead after 9pm, so why he felt the need to do this here whilst Legend Siam's car park is only down the road is beyond me?  Maybe small dick syndrome made him want to show off to the youths which sometime gather at the other end of the car park?  Either way, he deserves what he gets!

As we both know the carpark at Bahn Amphur is large and deserted at 1.00 AM.  Yes he caused some noise...not unknown in Thailand.

The fine is way too low. That wouldn’t stop many, however if they add mandatory jail time as well it may stop idiots from doing this. Also deport his butt so maybe others will think twice about doing this. 

Fair enough, not sure if he deserves to get deported but perhaps a huge fine like 50k plus a bit of jail time. I mean try doing something like this in Singapore and see what happens, you'd end up getting the cane or jail time. I know of a foreigner who was caught just driving a motorcycle without a valid license in Singapore, he ended up spending time in jail.

I didn't "recommend" anything but if he was going to do it why not go somewhere more out of the way with no houses with direct access?  It's not as if he's a tourist who doesn't understand the locals and the need to respect them.  It's a quiet fishing village where a lot will be up at 4am and the guy is a guest in the country, so act like one.  Maybe deportation is a bit too much but you don't know the history on this as there may have been complaints against him or other farangs previously?  You should know yourself that when the authorities feel that they need to make an example they will and he just might be the unlucky one on this occasion.

and we now agree that deportation for such a crime seems a bit harsh.
